baskington's Journal, 20 October 2018

yuck, now since someone brought up the caffeine itself as possibly messing with my ketone and glucose I checked that this morning too. one reading fasting and then 15 minutes after downing a 5 hour. no symptoms as I have reported before but yep, dropped my ketones to barely readable. that is how I started my day. it took me 3 hours after eating and 1 1/2 hour after cardio to get my ketones above 1 and my glucose was still high. Then I went to the bank to make a simple cash deposit, guess banking rules are changing had to cough up my license, then when I was pissed about that they then asked me to write down my occupation. I wrote down fish sales but now rethinking it I should have just said housewife. gosh it seems that no matter what you do someone is sticking their fingers into your private business. So being in a totally pissed off mood. I came home to whine and have my coffee. fog brain coming to help calm me down!

I think the reason I did not notice the dips before is because my ketones were so high in the higher range 2's and low 3's I was happy to have them drop a bit. I don't feel well when they are too high and glucose too low. balance thing. now that I am testing eating lower fat, it makes a huge difference.

I have to burn calories all day if I want to get my readings back to normal and that makes me feel like I am restarting my diet all over. I am in maintenance and I definitely do not want to have to work hard to maintain my weight and drop some fat. it feels like diet, I am over that.

The past week I have also been testing a new steak which has less fat and less flavor. I have really been unsettled this week and I think a lot of it is that I am not satisfied with my meal like I normally am. I know it may be odd but the difference in the flavor between the two types and fat is totally different. the lower fat level really makes a difference in the ketones.

so I will be running out to get my regular ribeyes this week. I am almost done with the short loin I got. I have just enough to get through the weekend. back to normal and I will have to get myself back into balance. Whether I do a minor reset this weekend with eating out of plan, I have not decided yet.

one thing I did learn before I started changing things, on the 2 weeks or so of maintenance eating like I normally do but more calories, is I could push my calories over maintenance and not gain a bunch of weight. easily adjusted with a weekly average. that was using higher fat and 5 hour energy. this week with lower fat, coffee and lower average calories all week I gained 2 pounds. so I did learn a bit about how my system is working in maintenance. I would prefer to eat more freely and enjoy things. low fat is not working for my enjoyment from dieting.

What if you tried adding more calories and keep the fat % up?

Just gotta say my jaw dropped when you said the bank gave you a hard time for a cash deposit! I mean was it $11 million? Do you live on lake of the ozarks? Also, you are doing great isolating the different variables. Reminds me of the game mastermind.

yes no pain, that is what I did when I hit maintenance eating a lot more calories than my weight loss routine. maintained my weight just fine even when I went over. that is what maintenance is all about. learning how to maintain your woe with adjustments of more calories. the first couple weeks were great and when I adjusted down on the fat things changed. so no cutting down so much on fat.

I used to wait tables and faithfully put aside cash every week. At one point they gave me a hard time about getting some out. The details are fuzzy as it was a long time ago, but i remember i wrote the bank president and told him clearly my paltry hard-earned cash doesn't mean much to him and so i was going to park it elsewhere. He sent me a letter back (this was before email was invented, haha) but the damage was done. I think banks forget who is the customer.

thanks Draglist, it is a bitch when things keep getting fussier. if it wasn't probably at all the other banks too I would move.

Gotta chime in here because I work in the back office of the banking world in the compliance areA. Ever since 9/11 and the patriot act banking has changed and continues to at a ridiculous pace. There are so many requirements on our end most people would be amazed. We are required to “know our customers”. And that includes what they do for a living or if they are retired what they did before retirement. Banks are audited to all this and if there is missing information can be fined so please please dont be offended or take it personal if it feels like we are getting too up in your business. You can thank the government for it 100%. We don’t like it either. Also there is really no risk to make a cash deposit if you are able to verbally provide your account number the teller didn’t need to look at your ID. Just poor training there now if you didn’t know your account number and they had to look it up they need to see your ID that is for your protection. People fish for account information all the time in very inventive ways. Much of what we do is to try and protect you so don’t be getting mad because you were inconvenienced to have to actually get your ID out of your wallet.

I should also add on the cash amounts they depend on how much cash you are bringing in and again you can thank the government for that too. If you are trying to put a couple $100 in your account and give me your account number yourself I would not have asked for ID

that is why I was mad, I gave them a deposit slip with my name and number on it. there was no reason but they said because I did a deposit through the window they needed all this stuff.

I go under the 10,000 grand limit, so maybe that changed too now a days. I don't do it often

Yes unfortutunately it gets to where the employees are over causcious now and they start asking everyone for everything. Paranoia over rides common sense. Just know that no body is sitting in the back office somewhere dreaming up way to make things inconvienient. :). So many regulations it’s just easier for some to consistently ask every person they come in contact with for the same exact info every time. My suggestion is to find a smaller bank. Preferably a credit union. They seem to be a little more personable. They have a chance to get to know you as an individual better as opposed to the big guys.

I started using flexible dieting with a weekly ‘allowance’ and I love it! On the days I’m not hungry I just don’t eat much and days I’m starving I can over a bit. Glad you figured that out about the caffeine. Kinda sucks though if you are like me and need caffeine to get ya going. Still haven’t had caffeine today and I’m dragging.

Since I’m on my soap box let me put things in this perspective. And yes I’ve seen this. Say your 80 year old mother (if you had or have one) hypothetically comes in or calls to initiate a wire transfer to say Africa. Said 80 year old we see is a retired retail worker and gets $1000 a month in SSI and she’s sending every last dime she has in her savings account to a “family member”. Would you not be a bit concerned if someone didn’t start asking your mom a few questions about this wire? And if we hadn’t asked her when she opened her account what her previous occupation was and if she was retired how would we have known that things might not make sense in this particular transaction? Know your customer. This poor 80 year old lady in fact had met a “boyfriend” online and he needed help for a surgery he had to have before he could come to America to be with her. When asked why she said she was sending the funds to a family member she responded that her “boyfriend” told her to.

Sorry for my rant guys :)

Hi mmfamily, i did not mean to start anything, particularly on an unrelated topic. It did flash across my mind juuuust as i was hitting submit that probably i will offend someone who works at a bank. Sorry, that was not my intention. The incident i mentioned predated 9/11 by a few years. I don't doubt you are hamstrung by myriad regulations and rules, but to be honest, at the time i was in my mid 20s and i took it as a judgement on my job (server) and that somehow i couldn't be trusted to spend my own money that i had earned and saved responsibly. Rightly or wrongly, when you ask what people's jobs are, they will likely assume you are making other kinds of judgements about them based on what they do for a living.

I totally agree! And I didn’t mean to get sensitive about it. It’s like retail workers and how they are treated on their end sometimes and it feels so good to be able to vent. My message was really to just understand that there are reasons behind what that teller in front of you is doing and to try and understand it may be out of their control. Sometimes bad training but mostly a regulatory thing :). I get defensive because we get yelled at a lot and for things if you really thought about maybe a common sense things and to protect the consumer. I will shut up now lol.

The entire world is overly intrusive - it sucks! Hope your old steaks bring back what you are looking for!

Can you use an ATM to deposit cash? Seems that would reduce the Q & A.

the flexable dieting was working for me too with the average when I had higher fat and no coffee. Peeperjj

mmfamily I totally understand in that situation, but I was not removing money. I expect to have headache if I remove money. I was putting money in and I don't appreciate going through hoops especially when I was in a hurry in drive through. they can ask me all they want when I am withdrawing money and I would be inside as I expect the song and dance. I am still pissed off and not going to yell any more today. but again I was putting money in.CASH and I guess that is a problem now a days to have CASH and not checks.
