DairyFarmersWife's Journal, 03 October 2018

I started something a few days ago that I'm calling my why journal. You know how people have journals where they write what they are grateful for every morning? Yeah... that's hard to do when you get up at 5 am with a screaming alarm to go to the barn or you're woken up by a tiny human on your chest collapsing your rib cage demanding you feed them... It's hard to be grateful when you're head is full of curse words. At least it's hard for me. Maybe other people can do it.

Instead of being grateful I'm listing all the reasons I want to be healthier, smaller, stronger, and sexier as motivation to stay on track. Today is day 6 and I have had a few tempting moments but I've logged everything I've eaten, I've stayed to my plan, I've worked out as many days as my schedule allowed, and I'm doing pretty well. Granted sometimes my reasons are things like "I want to look sexy when I drop all my crap in the hallway because I'm a hot mess and I have to bend over and pick it up." or "I want the crude jokes in spin class to include me not the cute HR chick that's next to me." Do these reasons make sense? No not always. But they are my reasons and for some reason being excluded from the crude jokes in spin class makes me feel less something. I should count my blessings.

In the notebook I write a small thing about what's been going on and then I fill the rest of the page with why I'm going to lose weight and workout. Is this a thing I didn't know about? Do other people do this? It seems like the simplest thing in the world and I can't figure out why I didn't do this before now for motivation. Maybe my lack of sleep has finally driven me to that point where I think I've got this but other people are watching going.. um yeah.. that's not right.

I have a "what is your why?" reminder set on my iphone. I'm not saying it's the only thing that got me to goal. But, if people ever asked how I was able to stay steady - this activity be the reason. This is even better because, you can go back and read them!

at the very least, be GRATEFUL that you get the privilege to have a tiny human. others can't or lose a few or struggle before they can :) #1in4 #miscarriageawarenessmonth

Love that you write it down! You have beautiful handwriting. Writing seems to becoming a lost art. Its at the point where most people would rather stab at the keys. I do lists. I have cute little apps on the phone, tablets, and laptops that do lists but I like writing them out, using white out on errors, and editing old fashioned edit marks. Why someone may ask... makes you use your brain more, good to keep control in your fingers, keeps your writing from getting sloppy…. think about the many health benefits. Of course, I enjoyed all of your reasons. Many have applied to me. Maybe you can apply your beautiful handwriting to a novel or short stories. You do have a wonderful, easy to read, and enjoyable perspective!!!

I'm trying to keep a journal for general clarity and mental health. Having a 'why' question to answer each day would help me a lot in making sure I sit down and write SOMETHING each day. I'll give it a try. Thank you for sharing from yours!

I’m up early too....with the chickens. Little easier than cows. The only thing is that I love mornings. I remember my dad telling us we slept half the day away, because we didn’t get up until 9:00 am. He was up at 5:30 am everyday. Now, I’m older with chickens and up at 5:00 am, sometimes 4:00 am. Now, I understand what my father meant. I can get a lot done in the morning, but I discovered something else.....I’d miss a lot if I didn’t get up so early. I’d miss that beautiful red fox, the offspring of a wild duck that mated with a domestic duck, that wood pecker that pecked a hole in my post, those blue birds, and best of all,,,,,,,the peace and quietness only morning can have.

Afternoons can be pretty great too! Now that the weather has cooled, I can turn off the AC and leave the front door open to enjoy the outside while inside. Was resting today, watching the way the wind whipped the branches of the big pecan tree in the yard, and then hit the fan of my ornamental windmill, which screeched a little and then spun frantically. Meanwhile the butterflies were swirling back and forth, framed by the open door. There was a poem about God's butterflies welling up in my mind -- its not there yet, but I'm working on it. And then I thought about what I would have missed if I had grabbed up my Kindle and read someone else's thoughts instead of listening to my own. I've enjoyed your postings!!

Make sure to go back and read them! I have lots of notes, I just don't follow them.
