Day 7 of a planned 11 day 'no solid food fast'

Blood sugar 81 mg/dL

Gained another pound on my 'fast' 😊

Perhaps it was because I allowed myself to drink as much water 🌊 as I could, and to consume as much Protein Powder 🥛 as I wanted to until I was stuffed.

My carbs went above my goal of net 10 carbs that I usually have when I lose weight. Another number is the protein, whenever it goes above 120 I seem to gain weight. I believe it is water associated with stored glycogen, but, my goal is to keep my carbs and my glycogen low so my body is forced to burn more fat. Whatever the cause is, looking at the numbers, I am going to cut back on consuming so much protein powder.

Today I will return to the macros that worked last week:

🌟 10 net carbs (or less)
🌟 100 grams of Quest Vanilla Milkshake Protein Powder (or less -this stuff has carbs! - that's why it is delicious!)

I decided to change my profile picture. There is only a 6 pound difference, but there have been nearly 20 one hour weightlifting sessions 🏋🏾 between the two pictures. It appears I am slowly exchanging fat for muscle. 😎

Have a good day everyone!

remember the body will need to repair after working out and it needs that protein. It will also hold water. In a day that water weight will disappear. I think this is why you increased your protein for your work out. I believe you did the right thing and maybe a little overfocused on the slight water gain/ Muscle repair having fuel is super important too.

@jenjabba - Thanks for that complement! But, I never had this much muscle 18 :) My motivation for the past 9 months has been that I turn 50 this week and wanted to get in the best shape possible to help deal with the fact that AARP is sending me 'membership forms' in the mail now! Haha

@baskington - I agree that the protein 'may' not be an factor and that I would have gained water weight anyway. However, I went through a 'I want to eat' mental phase this weekend and consumed wayyy too much protein powder in heavy cream. I mean, what am I doing?? I consumed 1400 calories yesterday! You call that a 'fast'?? Hahah! I feel it was because I had too much idle time and you can only exercise so much. This week I am back to work and busy!

well you can reduce calories and keep the protein up. maybe your mind was tricking you into all that indulgence with the cream. the protein powder itself was not all those calories. that has no calories and no carbs. You are right to want to curb those cravings, but I sincerely doubt those cravings had anything to do with protein powder and more to do with the heavy cream feeding your cravings. Just something to think about. I am holding my weight loss and eating plenty of protein and no exercise.

@baskington - Yes the calories are higher, But, the calorie difference is so small I have a hard time accepting that it is simply a case of my weight going up because I consumed more calories. I really believe it is 'water retention'. I believe that water retention is controlled by glycogen. My protein powder does have carbs. I use a LOT of granulated Splenda and it also has carbs. So, when I say 'Protein Powder' it really is not 'just protein'. It's a ton of 'associated carbs' that are not being properly tracked.

well I forgot to mention the Splenda as it does spike many peoples appetites and you are generous with it. I did not want to overstate, more offer some thoughts and let you work through it. You know your body and cravings best. I just hate to see the protein get a bad rap when it is the other stuff messing with your cravings. I have the islopure powder here and it in itself has no carbs. My son is going to grab it when he comes up this weekend

@chrisw77 - I'm just going back to what I did Tuesday-Friday last week :) This weekend I basically doubled my 'intake'. I think that caused 'water weight' to increase. There was no good reason for me 'consuming more'. It's not like I was 'hungry'. I was just 'bored' and 'wanted to eat'. I couldn't eat so I kept making 'Protein Shake' after "Protein Shake'. Totally 'binging' because of 'emotions/boredom/ect.' like most of the other people on this site :)

@keilin-4 - Don't look too close because you will be able to tell how my hand is covering the bulge of my belly :) :) What looks like abs is really created by my turning slightly to the side and casting a slight shadow :) :)

Congratulations Baby! You said you wanted to post a photo with no shirt and have abs for your 50th and BOOM! Photo with abs and 5 days to spare. I am so proud of you and you look amazing :)

@baskington - I agree, if it were just high protein it would not affect me. I updated the post to make it clear that it is my particular protein powder that I cannot consume in massive doses without taking a carb hit :)

@princessvalerie - Thanks Baby! Yeah this is 'The Photo' I was working toward since March. 'Bucket List' objective completed!
