I am very confused. I did not change anything this week besides go back to dance class. One hour of cardio and I gain 3.5 pounds? This makes no sense. I'm going to try to weight myself again this weekend to see if this is a fluke.

Also, I recently heard that weighing yourself once a week, or once every once in a while, is a bad indicator of your actual weight. Supposedly, if you weigh yourself every day AND take a weekly average, it's much better. The trend of the average weekly weight paints a much better picture of your weight and what is happening with your body.

Well, I just realized something did change. I have had four days this month where I did not get to my 17 hour fasting goal. I opened my window at 16 hours, sometimes even at 15 hours. Hmmm. Maybe I need to be a little more disciplined in getting to the 17 hour mark.

I have found that for me a 'small eating window' has the biggest effect. However, for me it only applies to when I eat 'solid food'. Drinking protein drinks all day long does not affect me when I am losing weight. However, my body considers a 'smoothie' (with fruit) 'solid food' :)

Water weight caused by inflammation from the cardio can cause weight "gain" simply because your body is using the intake differently. Weekly average can give you a better idea of what is happening. I weighed myself last night, and then again this morning - I lost 2 pounds overnight. I am trying to lose 40 pounds - one pound up or down in a couple of days is nothing - I am trying to see 4 or 5 pounds down in a month.

A once a week weigh in would drive me nuts!! That averaging sounds like an interesting method.

we all see bumps and jumps on the scale with our daily weigh ins. I don't bother to log them and when the lower weight stabilizes for more than a day I post it. It is about every 8 to 10 days. I am not trying to lose weight, more working on toneing and building muscle. Your body is going through adjustments to your more serious exercise routine being in place. If you are following your woa, things will balance out over the end of the week. If you are eating more because your window is bigger that may be a factor. another is the fat burning window, but I don't know if just one hour difference would be that much of a difference.

Depending on my water intake and how late I eat, my weight fluctuates between 3-6 pounds in a week. If you want a more accurate measurement of where you are at weighing yourself 3-4 times a week and creating an average may be a good route. 🙂

If TOM came to visit, no matter what you do you will have an increase for that week.

Hey adefwebserver. Thank you for your comment. I have heard that smaller windows really help with weight loss on IF. Thank you for confirming that with your experience. Yes, I feel like maybe that is it? I'm thinking of closing my feasting window at 6 hours so I can get 18 hours of fasting. I'm going to try it out this week and see if it works for me too. As far as the smoothies? That's super weird. I don't really know too much about that since I haven't done smoothies all day like that. Our bodies are so unique and amazing.

abbadabba. I'm so with you. I used to only weight myself once a month, and recently started weighing myself once a week. I wanted to see how intermittent fasting (IF) was impacting my weight loss. Weekly weigh ins can be an emotional rollercoaster for me sometimes. Thank you for reminding me not to lose sight of the long term goal. I'll probably get back to monthly weight ins.

CrashtestDawnie. OMG ditto! I think I might go back to monthly weigh ins, CrashtestDawnie.

baskington: Really good points. And congrats on focusing on toning and building muscle. I feel the best when I do that. I get in the zone and work on all of my muscles throughout the week. I even look younger. I'm definitely not there right now. For me, the focus right now is finding the best IF window and getting back into a 4 day a week workout routine. That's my baseline fitness. The question about how each hour of a fat burning window affects weight loss is intriguing. I would assume that the more you push past 16 hours, the more fat you burn? But who knows. I hear there aren't enough research studies on this to show the scientific impact. Based on what people are experiencing, it sounds like the more stable you feel while getting some fat burning zone times in, the better health results you get, including weight loss. We'll see! I personally can't wait to see how this turns out after a few months.

ryleemaya: yeah, I think so too. I feel like weighing myself more during the week and getting a weekly average would be the best route. Except that I just can't see myself spending so much time figuring out my weight. This actually has made me not want to focus on the scale so much anymore. Funny huh.

Mjgh06: TOM? I think you might be referring to my monthly friend who I refer to as "my moon." And yes, that's another thing. But that didn't happen to me this week. :D

g_ortegam: I've been there!! Especially the first year of my weight loss journey. I seriously weighed myself religiously. It was like a weird addiction. Helped tons when I started. Now it's just a burden. An emotional burden!

I like weighing myself every day. It starts me off thinking about my weight at that moment and my goals for that day/week/longer. I've noticed that on the days I don't weigh in the a.m. I tend to overeat during the day.

SoCalPam. Do you weigh yourself every morning with or without tracking on FS? It sounds like you use as part of your morning routine to help you sty focused, but not necessarily to log it. Am I assuming correctly? I ask because I wonder if logging it helps you stay the course, or if it's more like a mantra of sorts.

I have used an app called Libra fire years. It gives you an average, trend weight etc etc. It's free with minimal ads. I know there are many many more but I'm happy with it

Think about what you might have had before you got on the scale, if you drank a lot of fluid, or did you have salted food, if you tracked and ate within your limit then when you get on the scale next week you will most likely see the results, the scale won’t lie, but it doesn’t know the difference if it was water or a big fat piece of cake but if it was just water you’ll see the results quickly. And my opinion only but probably weigh yourself once a week at the same time for it to be accurate, you could weigh yourself more often if you wanted to keep a closer eye on your progress, so you can evaluate yourself like am I eating the right portion sizes or did I have too many servings of a particular food, how often you weigh yourself depends on how you feel about it

I weigh myself every morning, scale chills on floor same spot. I only log when I lose 😂 I am aware of fluctuations so they don’t stress me too much. As I don’t log what I eat anymore (I can do this, I can do this) I prefer to monitor by daily weigh ins. But indeed we all are different.

@diea. Most def. I know that I am so much further ahead of where I need to be in regards to my healthy changes and habits. But this weigh every day is killing me emotionally! I have a rly hard time with being pessimistic even though I have and continue to over come so much. Just a mind set. Dominate thoughts leads to actions.
