Eringiffin's Journal, 14 August 2012

I am officially in trouble. This week I gained back that mysterious 2 lbs. that I lost last week and I can't get it back off. The weigh in is tomorrow and I was hoping to avoid "the talk" about my little indiscretions with my doctor. I tell my FS buddies everything but I usually get away with non-disclosure with my MD because I can lose the weight before they notice. Well, my back sliding ways have caught up with me. I definitely need to cut back on the cheats.

When I could lose a lot of weight in a week, it didn't matter as much. Now I need to work harder to lose weight. I suppose if I would get some exercise in, I could eat more calories in the day.

This will not discourage me from continuing. I have come this far and I am not quitting now!

Today I am grateful for:

- I am not working on SharePoint development today, woot!
- Meeting new people, I always enjoy that part of a new client assignment.
- I get to eat lunch with the hubby, fun!

From what I can see you are eating tooooo little calories, your body is in starvation mode. click on the set RDI thingy on the enter food page, and FOLLOW what it says you should eat to lose weight. If we continually starve our bodies it will STORE those few calories you ARE eating, but if you feed your body it will USE them up.

also MAKE SURE you eat breakfast EVERYDAY :)

Got me. Looks pretty darn close to my own numbers, up to and including that one 1600+ calorie day a few days back. If you're not actually eating breakfast, have at least something to jumpstart your metabolism for the day, I guess. Maybe you need to start putting in numbers for your exercise/metabolism side, to see more closely what energy expenditures you have?

apparently you are in possession of the same two pounds that keep appearing and disappearing on my scale. perhaps we are just passing it back and forth. we need to find some skinny person to push it off on. if your doc is chewing you out over 2 pounds then he/she must be perfect? don't beat yourself up. you are doing fantastic. xoxo

My doc is about as heavy as I am, and I love that; I don't feel too bad about admitting to whatever I am doing right or wrong in terms of diet and exercise. But regardless of whether the MD is skinny or fat, if they give you the death stare or judgement vibe for eating what you want sometimes, well, patooey on them! We all trade what we want most (weight loss) for what we want now (cheesecake) from time to time, but I know of an actual scientific study that showed that people only have so much willpower... That is, you CAN exhaust your supply of it!! So a few little cheats are no big deal... They slow your progress, but you're not giving up, and that is the only definition of failure. Do your weigh in, ignore the results, and resolve that the next one will be better because you will keep doing your best. (-:

Guilty on all counts. I either eat too much or too little lately and I hardly ever eat breakfast. Plus, I am not exercising. So there is definitely room for improvement here. I think part of the problem was that I was eating 800 calories a day for a long time and my body got used to it so now when I raise it to 1000, my metabolism hasn't adjusted to the new normal yet. Or at least that is a theory I have at the moment. You can actually eat less calories on a low carb diet than most people here think because ketosis keeps the body in fat burning mode as opposed to muscle/organ harvesting mode.

@Heidijoy, I loved your comment and you are right about not sweating the small stuff. Just gotta resolve to do better this coming week. I never knew that about will power. I must have a lot stored up from all those years of not denying myself anything. ;)

I'm actually a bit worried about that same thing - that my body will get too used to the lower calories and push me into weight gain as I slowly try to ramp up my caloric intake again, but I guess I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. I'm hoping that increasing my exercises slowly will help offset that, and get me building muscle rather than fat when the time comes.

What worked for me was to eat more calories - closer to 1200 maybe - and then change up your exercise routine, and that will likely offset any gain. I admire you ability to "cheat" but stay on track for the most part. For me, one little cheat can explode into a big cheat!
