Nidoqueen's Journal, 15 August 2018

Once upon a time, York Peppermint Patties were my absolute downfall. I used to plan out my work day by equipping my desk with 8 YPPs, one for each hour. When I decided to eat better, I quit them cold turkey. It was hard. Then last week...

I tripped... I bought a package of minis, rationalizing that I would only eat one on any given day. I sorted out the nutrients and macros for one tiny mini (3.3 carbs/13 calories) and decided I could manage to work in one every now and then. It was all very noble.

(And before you go jumping to conclusions, I did *not* give in and wreck my diet...let me finish my story! :-P )

So anyway, I tucked them in my purse, ate one per day on 2 separate days and did okay. However; they haunted me. I thought about them there in my purse every waking minute! I ignored them for 2 days. Then I went back to indulge...and mother nature had smashed my goodies and told me "NO". So I tossed them in the trash and vowed never to buy them again. THE END.

It's a sad story. I'm not even clear that it's a happy ending! ;-). It's a wonderful ending for your health though!

Ohhhh... I am like that with Hot Tamales. I can't buy them anymore. I applaud your strength!

I'm with NowIUnderstand. I applaud your self control, even if it gnawed at you, but we do need to reward ourselves from time to time. Just a hint; Glad makes 1/2 cup sized keepers that are perfect for 2 or 3 of those minis. They won't get crushed and, if you do cave in to indulge (or overindulge), you can't eat the whole bag. Win/Win!

Agree with Gareed. Never try to ignore your craving, because then you will over indulge. Curb them responsibly, love the Glad keepers idea!!! My craving is Gummy Bears!!

I gotta say, there must be a way to do a healthier version... Wouldn't you think? Mint extract, dark chocolate and something "gooshy?"

Treating yourself to your very own downfall is akin to serving yourself a large portion of guilt-see how they preoccupied your every waken moment, and many on here would so "no big deal, you deserve to treat yourself once in a while." For me the only way I can succeed is to keep junk away from me.

I am that way with Milk Duds. had to ban them from my surroundings.

I was thinking maybe egg whites and coconut for the gooshy part? Yeah, idk what your woe is...

one of the biggest parts of the mistake I see is that they were the minis. Soooo easy to wind out eating a lot of them because they seem like so little it doesn't feel like a huge cheat to have more than one

I can skip the candy but a homemade biscotti with chocolate chips are my downfall.

Oh ya, I would eat chocolate coated: caramel, raisins, peppermint, or coconut too. I just can't trust myself around any of those. Gooey, sticky, sweet and chocolate coated. It's an addiction I recognize very well. Get thee away from me Satan!

Very nice story. I particularly liked the use of, "The End."

I love this! I was a little Debbie addict, candy fiend, daily cake baker and eater. Basically, give me ALL THE SWEETS. I’ll huff frosting for a quick high. I was taught by a medical dietitian to plan for these foods, to not completely cut them out, because by putting them on a pedestal I gave them power and was likely to binge them. thanks for the wonderful reminder- I needed to see this today! You rock, big time.

Too funny - I would have licked them up so congrats on not giving in!

@Jengetfit123 - Figured this one out: Take 1/2 cup cream cheese, 1/2 cup butter, 1 t Peppermint extract (more or less to taste), 4T Swerve. Beat till smooth, freeze into drops. Melt 8 sq Bakers Unsweet 100% Cacao, 3T Swerve, 1T Coconut oil. Blend till smooth and allow to cool slightly. Dip frozen mint bombs into dark chocolate and let refreeze. Enjoy the heck out of them because they only have like .5g carbs.
