Day 1 of weight maintenance

What do you do with your life when you are not losing weight?

I have honestly been trying to lose weight every day of my adult life. This morning is the first time EVER that I woke and thought "I don't need to lose any weight today." You would think this would be a good thing, but, since I know I don't want to get fat again, I know that while I don't need to lose weight, I am 'still' on a 'diet'.

I know how to gain weight. All I need to do is eat more carbs. I allowed my carbs to go up to 60 last night and sure enough I am up one pound. This is not bad considering I lost 4 pounds the day before (also, I am STILL at a 'normal BMI' :)), however, keep this up, and one pound a day can turn into 30 pounds by September.

So, the plan today is to keep the carbs to 30 and get 1 hour of weights and calisthenics in.

Ironically this could cause me to lose weight...
164.0 lb Lost so far: 43.0 lb.    Still to go: 0 lb.    Diet followed poorly.

I am sure you can learn to eat well and do just fine. It will be an adjustment for sure but you will have something new to fill it. Actually a couple things, learning how to eat well and a new exercise program. Great that you got to your own personal goal and now ready to make a new one!

@baskington - Thank you for the encouragement! :) I am grateful that I can 'concentrate on weightlifting'. If I just did exercise I think I would just keep losing weight :) :) Unfortunately 'eating well' is the thing that I have 'failed' at in the past. Fasting allowed me to 'side-step the issue' :) I HOPE that during the week I can 'fast' until 5:00pm each day and just eat dinner. I hope that works...

We got this babe! Since I am basically in charge of what you eat I promise not to let either of us get fat again :)

Now you focus on your new way of eating, planning good meals, getting out with the family biking or hiking or swimming etcetera!

maintenance is crazy, you don't want to lose any more weight but you don't want to gain weight back either haha

If you figured out how to lose that weight I know you will figure out how to maintain it - you look great so enjoy it!

@keilin-4 - I think I will end up having to fast to 'balance it out'. I REALLY ENJOY fasting after all this time, so I am TOTALLY FINE if that is what I end up having to do...

@nikeit - Thanks! I feel I look 'gaunt' now, but I am way happier with my look than in the first picture!

@abbadabba - Yes! That starts TODAY.

Whenever you are 2 or 3 pounds up, you can fast that day to negate them. Thus maintaining your BMI. Also, you can focus on "clean" food, good exercises, and gaining muscle. You will be perfectly fine. Maintenance should be the topmost priority. You know very well that you have come so far. You don't wanna let it go. Being mindful about it will keep you on the track. Good luck!

@reader1 - Yes, and I am REALLY trying hard to 'not eat anything that comes in a wrapper' :) So far today, I only have only scheduled to eat (I MUST put in my planned food at the beginning of the day), a bag of low carb chips that are 'packaged'. Everything else is 'real food'. :)

Yeah. However, a treat window every 10 or 15 days will also let you enjoy the food you love the most. And you won't feel deprived of your favorite food.

I am sure your wife will get you on track and honestly taking a proper lunch to work if you think you need to eat I am sure you will have to play that by ear once you get going. Or at least some tasty fat bombs for when the urge hits you. You can eat something that fits in your diet or really benefits your need for something rich and satisfying. Knowing something tastey is there may be enough. But I am sure the 2 of you will figure it out. trial and error.

I'm thinking the 5:2 concept might be great in maintenance, if not fasting a day a week. For those unfamiliar, with 5:2 you eat normally 5 days a week and limit calories to 600-800 on two days, consecutive or spread out. Of course mostly healthy foods are considered key here. I believe if nothing is off the proverbial table eventually the relationship with some problematical foods will change. We no longer overdo simply because we know it's bad and we are going to be cutting it out of our lives "forever." Maybe we actually taste it instead of shoving it in madly.

Yay, you reached goal. I reached goal in March. I’m with you. I added in some carbs and the weight went right back up and I felt like crap. I’ve stuck with lCIF 18/6 and even lost a few more lbs but maintained overall. I count no calories. Just lCIF. It is so nice to not have to worry about losing anymore. At first I was scared about not maintaining but it’s fine. Not as hard as I thought it would be. How did you feel after your extended fast. My hubby is on day 5. He started LCIF 10 days before that. He’s down from 264 to 238 in 15 days. What did you eat coming out of your EF.

@2426girl - Thank you for sharing your experience. That gives me hope and Low Carb Intermediate Fasting is what I am trying today. Because it is the weekend I plan to 21:4, however, on weekdays I plan to do OMAD (One Meal A Day). I have been 'extended fasting' 5 days a week for about 3 months. I am so used to it that I never want to go back to eating throughout the day. I take in a lot of calories throughout the day drinking protein shakes, but solid food will trigger a 'carb binge'. After weeks of extended fasting you get used to not having any 'sugar spikes'. This is a-very-good-thing :)
