Miraculum's Journal, 14 July 2018

I had a terrible night of sleep last night. Not surprising, with all the junk I ate yesterday.

Next week, I'm meeting for the last time with the psychiatrist who has followed me quarterly for medication appointments since April 2003. At that time, I was at my top weight and immobilized by depression so severe that I took a month off from work to participate in day treatment.

Looking back, it was a long slide that began with the deaths of my dear paternal grandparents and my loving-but-flawed mother between February 1967 and February 1969; my father's unabating physical and emotional abuse and abandonment in the early 1970s; two disastrous marriages (1973 and 1986), and a cataclysmic second divorce and bankruptcy in 2003.

I was never a smoker or drug user. Having discovered that the anesthetic effects of sugar and chocolate upon my childhood insecurities, these became my drugs of choice as a young adult.

Friends and faith were key to my survival and recovery, beginning in 2003. Life started anew when I met my future-and-current husband in mid 2008; we've been happily married for five years now. I've tapered off all psychoactive drugs, including anti-depressants and anxiolytics. I've feel "whole," mentally, for the first time in my adult life.

I've lost 71 pounds since 2003, half the weight I'd gained between 1973 and 1993 and maintained through 2003. It's well passed time to stop clinging to the dysfunctional attachments to carbs.

Today, another new day to embrace and share my many blessings!
