Day 2 of a planned 2 day fast

I have gotten to the point where anything less than a 5 day fast doesn't do much for me. Once you know the benefits of day 3+ it is hard to appreciate day 1 and 2. There are benefits (mental clarity, body not 'weighed down' with food), but it is too early to have my glycogen stores empty and have my body switched to burning fat.

I use Hi-Lyte electrolyte concentrate to deal with effects of the 'adjustment' period when starting a fast (headaches, dizziness, lethargy). The negative aspect is that it causes me to retain water. I had a really good fasting day yesterday (167 calories / 18 carbs) and this morning I GAINED a pound.

For me, happiness always requires acceptance and gratitude :) But, still, I decided I will weigh again on Friday...

@gaelicgal - Thank You! If not for this site and people like you supporting me, there is no way I would have the 'mental strength' to just keep going on. I was faced with a ton of 'food opportunities' yesterday. But, I wasn't hungry, I just 'wanted to eat, taste the food'. I felt 'I deserved it'. But, I thought my FS friends would wonder what happened to me if I just dropped off my WOE, so I stayed the course.

You are working your WOE and you will lose so hang in there!

you are doing great 👏, for me it's hard to do OMAD, blah 😞

@keilin-4 - Haha it is hard for me to do OMAD too! Because I 'drink' the miso soup (like I drink the bone broth) I consider it still a 'fast'. If I actually EAT something... well... I will eat a hamburger :(

@Gingerk65 - Thank you! I also realize that my WOE changes over time. In the past I would allow myself up to 800 calories in liquids when starting a fast. Now I'm down to under 200. Perhaps soon I will get it down to 0.

Hey what about nutrition to keep your body functioning optimally? Doesn't seem to be a factor in your diet.

Sorry also, so long as you are not overconsuming the hydrolytes, they don't cause you retain water that you dont need to retain. They help you hold on to water that would prevent you from dehydration - which could kill you actually. I think your diet idea is all messed up. If you are at all interested in my idea of a successful approach to dieting, i'm happy to give it to you. But first is the principle of good nutrition because without it, you've no chance of success.

@Pattience - I have been fasting for months, trust me I'm ok :) Also, in the past three months I have gone from obese to 24% body fat. I'm sure the idea of fasting seems scary, but we ALL fast every day for periods of time.

If you are retaining water on the tast it is because you are consuming too much sodium in your drink. Cut that in half and use water for the other half.

@oxdrover - Yeah I think I used too much of the super salty Hi-Lyte electrolyte concentrate.

Looking forward to getting into your links and researching your information.

how often do you fast?
03 Jul 18 by member: Deege76
@Deege76 - I usually fast Monday-Friday. I have been doing that for nearly two months.

@Samantharox1 - Go strait to the source, Dr. Fung. His best book: "The Obesity Code: Unlocking the Secrets of Weight Loss" - https://amzn.to/2sAbluO - The last half is about fasting.

I admire your resolve. I have been fasting 2 days a week for the past month and I have had great results so far. You are an inspiration - thanks for posting here!

@RiverRes - Thanks for the support! You're doing really great because fasting two days is a lot! For me it is the hardest part. After that, for me, it is a 'mental issue' because day 3+ "YOU JUST WANT TO EAT" :) But, when motivated I was able to go as long as 11 days.

Abef I would simply cry!! Lol I need to work on my aditude and my perspective

@CrashtestDawnie - ...and this morning I gained another pound! Haha But, I look in the mirror and even I am telling myself "Dude you're looking really skinny". My blood glucose was 76 this morning. I must believe that sticking to program is enough (I need to control insulin to control my weight). The scale, and the water retention in my body, is not going to do what I want :) - - I looked at your chart again. Since April, you lost just as much weight as I have and were able to eat! You better not cry! :)
