Nidoqueen's Journal, 03 July 2018

Okay guys, I need some support here. I'm totally bummed today and for the first time since I started this WOE (4 months ago tomorrow), I don't think I can do it for one more day.

I'm usually pretty upbeat and things have been going well in terms of my weight loss, but this morning just flipped my switch. Yesterday morning, following my complete morning routine (bathroom, teeth, shower, hair), I weighed in at 196.8. This morning after exactly the same routine, I weighed in at 198.4. Could someone please explain to me how this is even possible? I have had ONE cheat day in 4 months and that was back in May. Other than that, I have been very careful with everything I eat. Even when I have something off menu, I chart it. You can look at my food diary and see every single calorie that has entered my body since March 5 (hint: I'm HFA so details and routine are sort of my "thing"). I drink lots of water, but its about the same amount every day, at about the same times so I don't think water is the answer... not for 1.6 pounds. I'm just flabbergasted over it. I know it's just a number and it will probably rectify itself in a few days, but still... it just defies physics!

And then today, I was scanning my feed and my usual friends are posting pictures of themselves and their lovely food and all the food just look disgusting to me. I want cake. And pasta. And a cheeseburger on the side. Sigh...

I'm not giving up, but I'm not having a good day. Part of me wants to fast all day and "fix this" and the other part of me says "wtf, go get..." and then I can't even come up with what I would get if I threw caution to the wind.

And tomorrow is the Fourth of July...picnic with the family, Mom and brother doing the cooking. yay.

you have been doing great, i have days like that too, today I want to do OMAD but my inner voice is telling me ;you do not need to do that 😐 and I still don't have the right answer for it, maybe reading a book, TV shows, social media , cleaning a garden, drinking water and coffee, etc. it helps me "sometimes"

I only took in 167 calories (no solid food), walked for an hour at lunch and gained a pound! Yeah water retention is real :) As I am sure you know "Up to 60% of the human adult body is water" https://on.doi.gov/1Jonns9 - Mostly I want to remind myself to be grateful that I am dealing with these fluctuations because I weigh less. It was SO MUCH easier to lose weight when I was 30 pounds heavier :)

That is right, the body is strange, we should not stress for a few extra pounds if we know that we do not gain fat, and especially when we did everything right, I should gain one more pound of water today and instead I lost the one from yesterday. We never know what is going to happen.

I know it is frustrating and I am going through the same thing but for me I think I have id'd that certain foods I am eating are hitting my food sensitivities and I am retaining water. 1.7 pounds for this morning and a few days ago it was 3 pounds. I know this may not be what triggered your retaining water, but it can be just about anything. keep to your diet and don't let the scale derail all your good work. It will drop off. My first 3 pounds came back off with a little extra weight off in 4 days. water is heavy much heavier than you think.

have a cheat day and then get back to your WOE. when we try to deprive ourselves of foods we like, our "diets" don't last long.

High heat and humidity outdoors?!? Living in AC?!? High sodium intake for a few days?!? Yes, water.

Your thinking about it too much..your weight will fluctuate up and mostly down..Your in a better place today with your woe..and if you go off do it in moderation.

Weight fluctuates up and down daily and there are many variables: hormones, water retention, a woman's time of the month, heat and humidity, etc!! Don't give up. Weight loss isn't linear, it goes up and down. Take a look at my chart. It's ok!!

probably water or muscle weight. youre doing everything you're supposed to, dont give up. just think about how far you have come and how you don't want to be back where you came from. also! indulge in some desserts. in moderation and exercise that day. a little bit of a cheat might save your diet and you don't even have to go over macros.

I agree with Cantaloupe, Murphthesurf, and Jennifer. Hang in there--the most obvious reason for weight fluctuations is WATER. Our bodies are around 60% water, depending on age. Have you been exercising? Exercise is another variable-it causes water to move into the muscles, causing temporary weight gain as our bodies heal. Also, muscle tissue contains more water than fatty tissue, so as the body's composition changes so does the percent of water. Ignore the daily fluctuations, or if you can't do that then look at them as a curiosity. That's what I do. I weigh myself everyday and then go, "Look how interesting the body is!" (I know this is obvious, but do you have a reliable scale?)

All good suggestions here. So enjoy your family in the 4th and the food in moderation.

Don’t eat anything tomorrow until dinner, then have a nice big steak and a tomato. Keep drinking your water. You should drop weight the next day.

Despite your best efforts, your weight will fluctuate. It can be discouraging but stick with it. It is the Long Term Trend you look at.

Yes! I had stressful day yesterday. We have those days. I went totally off yday! So I'm fasting today. I like the even out method. I use it all the time. I can't eat today if I wanted too! Too full still! I started a 90day challenge, with friends a week ago. So don't give up. I have 20# to lose. So it's start up day again today.

Is it hot where you're at? The heat makes me swell, and it's been close to 100 degrees where I'm at. I was up 5lbs Monday a.m. in fluid (how many of my FitBit steps were from running to the bathroom yesterday!) I naturally fluctuate atleast 2 lbs every day, which is why I weight 2x a day, daily, and track it so I don't freak when #s move. I wouldn't fret over holding steady or going up a smidge. Also, a cheat day on occasion is good - rev the metabolism a bit, it gets used to your routine!

Not sure if you’re working out but it you are you could’ve gained muscle, not fat

Potential water weight gain due to moon phase. Serious. Consider focusing on your size reductions and they way you feel instead of the weight number. Difficult I know because weight is the main method we evaluate progress, but not the only way. Hugs!

Are you doing Keto? If you cut out carbs your cravings will disappear. Literally. It will be a thing of the past. For fun google dr. eric berg and watch any one of his 2000 videos. It was a lifesaver for me.

Nidoqueen— I see that some form of the Keto diet is very effective, but the pitfalls that many people experience are real. I’m sorry you are having a tough time right now.

Recommended daily water intake is 3 liters which weighs 6lbs. Triggers for water retention could include environmental changes like spending a day in the sun, or your AC breaking down. Also, one can lose more than 2pounds with a trip to the rest room. Don't put too much stock in what the scale says, I trust my calorie counting numbers more than the nimber on the scale. You're doing great; keep pursuing your goal.
