Good morning!

It's Monday morning, and I am ready to go to work! I'm still gonna go in part time, but I'm upping the time this week. Last week I was hoping to stay until 12:00, but never made it. The goal is to BE THERE until 12 this week. I can do this.

I feel that I am moving forward FAST now. I am healing amazingly well (as you can tell in the videos posted yesterday), and I move and walk and stand as I am supposed to.

My only "real" issue is low energy (which keeps me from going full time at work) and the damn water retention/fluctuations.

I was so excited to see that I dropped more than two kilos of that damn water yesterday. Guess how I felt this morning when I saw that it's ALL back, and then even a little more. Dammit!

I'm pretty sure it's a more "normal" water retention, the so-called edema, that I am experiencing. It's perfectly normal after surgery. I am a little concerned with my skin stretching, as I see it concentrating around my stomach and legs. I see a little belly forming, and I do not like!

My surgeon is back from vacation today, so I figure I'll leave a message for her to please call me. I just wanna know how much my skin can handle, and whether we need to take action or not.

I wonder if this can simply be fixed with diuretic medicine? This doesn't look or feel like the fluid retention I've had. This is different. Anyways, we'll see what she says.

Now, something to consider when it comes to the retention, and getting rid of it:

Sunday morning, I was down 2 kilos. That day was BUSY. I got up, had a good, healthy breakfast, went shopping with Wife (walking and being active) and sat down for lunch. Immediately after, we went to play with BURN, and I did that all day. When I came home, I sat for an hour or so, and then went to bed, feet elevated most of the night. I was so tired that the position didn't bother me. I drank water every hour on the hour (as much as I remembered, but most of the time) all day.

I lost 2 kgs.

Monday morning, I was UP 2 kilos, after a lazy Sunday. I had no energy, and nothing to do. Wife and Daughter left at 11 AM and didn't come home until I was already sleeping.
I did nothing yesterday. I was tired - I suppose worn out after Saturday's shenanigans - and basically sat in my comfy chair all day. I was bored to death, and ended up eating stuff I shouldn't have. I even had candy - and way too much of it. Stupid me!
I went over my goal RDI, but not really in a bad way. I didn't get to the point where I consumed more than I burned, so it wasn't horrible. I went to sleep with my legs elevated, but I just couldn't get comfortable like that. In the end, I kicked the pillow to the floor and got some sleep. Since today is a work day, sleep was VERY high priority. I drank water every hour on the hour all day.

I gained the 2 kgs back.

Of course, all the weight we're talking about is water - or at least so I think. It's amazing that it can change THAT much in one day.

So, the obvious differences between the two days would be:

- A lot of moving around vs. not really moving at all.
- Food intake. Not too much difference in calories, but a lot of bread and candy on day two.
- Sleeping with legs elevated vs. "normal" sleep.

So, what makes the difference? Any ideas?

Today, I will try to move around more. I'm rehearsing with The Black Peanut tonight, so I will be a little more active then. Also, I will be very keen on drinking my water all day.

I will have to NOT drink coffee during rehearsal tonight. Normally, I drink quite a bit, but I don't want to end up with a sleepless night like last Monday. No way. Last Monday cost me a sick day from work Tuesday. I can't do that again. I want to be back at work - I have things I want to do. :)

I want to thank you guys for your comments on the music videos. We had a blast playing together, and there will definitely be more.

The Kid, as I should name him, is a really good guitar player. He really impressed me - just to see how much he's progressed the last 4 months is wild.

Trust me, we don't just have him join us because he's a sweet kid.

The only "downside" is that he doesn't know much of the material that we'd like to play, but he's got a good ear for things, and is eager to learn. On the other hand, him not knowing the originals can give him a fresh edged approach to the material.

I'm curious to see where we can take this.

Today I am thankful for:
- Energy to go to work!
- Jamming with The 'Nuts tonight.
- Morning Coffee.
- The morning spent with Wife.

Happy Monday to all! Life is good!

In case it seems like I "stalk" your jounal and am early to comment - I am not! It just seems the way the time zones work - I am about to sign-off for sleep, and you are an early riser on the other side of the world! LOL

Good luck on your day pal. That energy stuff is a real pain in the hind end. I actually kind of back tracked into old behavior and tossed Red Bull or other energy drinks into my mix back in my recovery. But alas, your a coffee person, so it would probably not help you, but who knows with all that vitamin B and other sweet sweet chemistry in them. Anyway, you will get the energy for work back, it just takes time. Do it a few times and it will get better and better.

JP, I always have a heavy-duty energy drink in my backpack these days. I know it'll give me a kick in the butt, if I need it. However, I haven't had more than two of those during my entire sick time. Not bad.

I'm sure your energy will get better..You can't expect to bounce back that quickly from the kind of surgery you had..but yeah you looked good on the video..maybe you did tooo much tooo soon..Have a great day...:O)

Even without surgery, we all have those kind of days that the energy is low and we don't do much. I think you're doing great with your recovery and it won't be long before you feel like yourself again. Listen to your body and rest when you need. BTW, loved your videos.
