Is it normal to just feel completely zapped after starting at the gym? It’s been a week since my first gym visit...I’ve been 3 times and have done some elliptical work outs at home in between. I am just so tired and my weight has gone up a little since starting which I’m guessing is normal but it is still frustrating. I have a number I want to get to (stupid I know) and then if I go up a little from there it’s ok. I’m feeling a little down today...one day I think I can do this woe and exercise forever and then the next I feel like I’m done and want to give up.

Gotta make sure you are eating enough calories for a gym life!! Too little food and too much gym will not go well..

be encouraged. your body isnt use to the shock yet! LoL. don't feel down about .4 really? :) I cant judge U about the working out because U know about me and Mr. Dread's relationship. My fella said the other night, U just need to sell it! WHAT? Sell Mr. Dread -but in reality someone else would enjoy him more. But I'm keeping him we are staying together! I haven't given up on ME! Hope U have a great day! Put a smile on that pretty face!

Totally normal! Whenever I get back in the gym habit, I find I need extra sleep for the first couple weeks. Try getting to bed earlier if you can, and it will help a lot. Even if you can't do it every night, any extra sleep will make a big difference. Same for the numbers going up. It sucks! But keep your chin up. It may be a week or two before you see the scale going down, but just remember that you're still losing fat and inches.

Momma, you are doing great! I haven't any advice, only encouragement. ❤

It's normal, after one week your body will get used to it , muscle gain and a little water retention can happen. Keep going!

Thanks guys! I need the info and encouragement! I know it’s .4 today but it’s +1 lb since last week. I just like to see the number go down not stay the same or go up. I’ll try to be patient , try to get more sleep, and eat enough calories. I just feel exhausted to the core but I’ve never used weight machines before...I’ve never had a lot of muscle tone so my body is in shock I’m sure! I do feel great right after the workouts and actually enjoy them. Don’t sell Dread marsha! 😁 he will be there waiting patiently until your ready for him!

I would think it would be common. I’ve been taking care of a child for almost a week and I’m pretty zapped.

when I get done with the gym I am tired in a good way - like work. I pay attention to not feeling hurt (sore is one thing) which means I am over doing it or not doing something right. I do push myself so I am routinely tired when I get home and the endorphins wear off. I am excited for your new gym adventure.

Thanks roschelle and tahoe! I feel great right after my workout and have been quite sore but don’t feel hurt. Then I feel completely exhausted and it stays until the next gym visit and the cycle continues. I hope I adapt soon and the exhaustion part gets better!

I think you might find it interesting to visit some sites that deal with exercise physiology and the art of refueling. One of the sites I have used is ACTIVE.com. For the last few years I have been helping to train a little gal and her mom to be runners. I have learned a whole lot about the science of refueling. If you Google “refueling after exercise”, lots of informational sites show up. I have a feeling that the manner in which you refuel might be contributing to the issues you are having.

I walked for one hour today and I am also sore. And I have to walk nonstop for several weeks so I get used to it and it doesn't hurt. Okay, what to do?accept the facts😨😨😱😱😵😵😇😇😇

Momma— one more thing— you proably know. Our best source of dietary iron is of course red meat.. chicken, turkey and seafood and pork to follow. Then BEANS, dark green leafy Vegies, any dried fruit, fortified cereals, pasta and breads. In order to absorb dietary iron your body has to have vitamin C. Often malabsorption iscaused from lack of C. Fruits, Vegas, any citrus fruit and vegetables. When you eat your foods that contain your chosen iron source it is important to eat foods containing Vitamin C AT THE SAME TIME to enable and enhance the absorption of the iron. No vitamin C=== decreased absorption of iron.

Make sure you eat an hour before you go to the gym, Murph taught me that! Everyone is different Sweetie as you know!

Yessss. Listen to your body!! Skip the gym, eat healthy, get good sleep and go tomorrow. Sleep is key until your body gets adjusted

Thank you Kenna! I am eating a low carb high fat diet so that makes the fruit thing difficult...I do take an iron supplement with vitamin c because I was low a while back but it was back to normal a few weeks ago when the dr retested.

I started working out in January and i have been butt-dragging beat. I finally took a week off just to feel a little more normal/lazy again. I can do a lot more now, but still tuckered.

Lots of good advice. I will add this...I've always read that if you are doing any type of substantial weights/resistance, you should eat protein within 30 min to an hour of your workout. Your muscles need protein to rebuild themselves. I do best when I workout first thing in the morning, with no food. That way I'm burning stored fat for energy rather than the food I just ate. Then I will either drink a protein shake (I don't use a full scoop) or eat a couple of eggs with avocado and tomato. You will find what works best for you, because just like your WOE, you have to do what is right for you with exercise. Plenty of rest is a must and make sure you are hydrating during and after your workout, especially if you are sweating a lot.

oh, and I am usually exhausted after my workout, but it's a good tired. Once I've eaten and rested for 30 min or so, I am good to go for the day. If I exercise in the evening, I'm pretty much done!
