kadrilyn cooking asparagus is very easy, the key is to cook it Quickly over high heat for a very short period of time no more than 5 min, I would rather have cold bright perfectly cooked asparagus vs hot mushy olive drab poop!
I cut the tough bottom stems off, peel slightly around the base. Then I just dropped them in the steamer basket with the cabbage rolls for the last 3-4 minutes. Then pull them out and toss they in good olive oil, feesh lemon juice, kosher salt and fresh cracked black pepper and that's it! Deliciousness!
Conversely you can toss the asparagus spears in oil, salt and pepper and put it under your broiler for a couple minutes. Or grill them over a bbq for a few minutes, but be careful, they love to fall through the grates! Use a grill basket if you have one for better results. Whatever you do get some now, they are in season and cheap! If you'll like Bloody Mary's, pickled asparagus is wonderful in them. Any way you go, good luck and Bon Appetité!

Thanks for the compliments all, as always I was just cleaning left overs out the fridge, the filling for the cabbage rolls, was leftover sloppy joe mix with spinach and cooked dried cauliflower and egg as a binder. The smoked tomato sauce I pulled out of the freezer from last summer, diced fresh tomato, cilantro and lemon juice to garnish, all in all it took about 30 minutes with a cost of about 3.70 and 9g of net carbs
