momma6224's Journal, 11 April 2018

Not sure what’s going on but feeling really down about it. I have been eating well and exercising this week unlike last week. Maybe last week is finally catching up on the scale. The things I usually do aren’t working yet but I’ll keep trying. Even if it’s water weight, I’m obviously not losing fat because that number has only gone up or stayed in the same range over the past few weeks. When I look in the mirror I still see plenty of fat that needs to go away. I really fear regaining what I’ve lost.
138.2 lb Lost so far: 19.4 lb.    Still to go: 13.2 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.

Yes, it's easy to feel down. Getting to where you want to go takes infinite patience, and a fair bit of wisdom. When I want my weight to go down, I do whatever and it goes down. I don't know, do women have more problems in this area? I would guess so, but I don't really know. Perhaps it's time to watch Rex Harrison sing, why can't a woman be more like a man? At least in the area of weight loss. With a positive attitude and a definite goal, you will get there, so don't be down. Oh, and here's the video which might make you smile (it was funny in 1965)! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Doz5w2W-jAY

Looking at the big picture, you've been doing great. The road to success is not linear, there are bumps and pot holes and as long as you trust/follow the process, you know that you are on your way to your goal! Us women have to deal with hormonal fluctuations, our bodies do their own thing and our weight doesn't always reflect our hard work. Keep monitoring what you do. If the weight loss stalls for more than 2-3 weeks, it might be time to tweak things around. You're doing great!!

Also, the calorie burning calculator on Facebook is ridiculously high. You are very likely not burning what this site is showing as calorie deficit. I also agree with redhairblackshoes in that it might be time to eat more vegetables, less fat, different protein, etc to change up your intake. Good luck!

I think we all go through this as far as the ups and downs and the only real choice is to stay the course. Focus on looking forward, not back at last week.

I have been up and down the same pound or so for the last month. I know this is really just how my body is working - basically because I am like you and pretty consistent. I also had to be gentle with myself and with self-criticism and how I felt I looked. I am pretty hard on myself at times (unrealistically so). I know I am making progress and I am a work in progress - life long work. I am eating right - exercising and getting out in the world. I wish you all the best on your adventure striving for your goals.

I agree with what everyone says here. Too much stress is definitely not good for you. But I also understand why you're feeling down. It's really disconcerting to come to a bottleneck. Thus I've done some research about losing stubborn fat and collected some tips that you might find useful: 1. Create a calorie deficit at about 20-25%. This could help you burn fat faster if you follow a regular exercise schedule. (According to websites such as Legion and Muscle for life) 2. Eat foods that boost metabolisms such as chilli peppers, ginger, seafood, legumes, nuts, and seeds if you are not allergic to them. (According to Chinese medicine and Healthline) 3. Do high intensive cardio, heavy lifting or callisthenics. (I've been doing these workouts for two months and my body fat went from 37 to around 30) 4. Relax and sleep well (Everybody knows proper rest is key to strong body functions) I personally believe that these tips are effective but it might take time to see the result, which may vary from person to person. I wish the best for you because I know you're determined to lose weight and all that.

Thank you all for the great advice and encouragement! I will definitely implement your suggestions. I haven't been below 135 in almost 19 years and would really like to show myself I can do it and stay there! Patience...this takes a lot of patience and perseverance. And even then hormones and stress can derail it for a time.

You will get there, Momma. I can't add anything in the way of advice that has been offered. It is all good stuff! Hang in there!

I get the same feeling - this week's scale is showing last week's work (or lack of). Nothing you can do about it. Today's a new day. And I'm saying it for me just as much as anyone else (haven't been to the gym since Friday)!

My advice to you would be to aim for a greater calorie deficit or increase your physical activity (Assuming that you are tracking calories). I used to also stess over not making progress, but from personal experience, I found it refreshing to up the intensity. Consuming less calories or increasing your calorie expenditure are two ways to ensure that your make progress, and not only will they help you continue your weight loss journey, BUT it will also play a role in keeping you motivated.

Consistency "WILL" pay off, be patient. This happens to all of us. Should it continue, you'll have to reevaluate your food intake.

Looking at your chart, you have been loosing steadily on a downward scale so don’t beat your self up. Re adjust your intake by say 200cal less. Or up your workouts. You will get there soon!

@Momma, I feel your pain. sometimes it is just your body playing catch up. With Keto I feel like i am getting smaller on weeks where I do not see movement on the scale. Keep with it you are doing great!

you may also want to go back up to maintenance level of calories for a few days and then go back down.

I lost a bunch and regained it. Frustrating but must keep up the progress. Things happen. We just have to get up and keep it up!

Stay the course !!! Don't allow your negative thoughts to overtake and derail your progress. We know you've got your wit and senses about you....so go conquer that mountain in your way ; )
