Day 439
Weight 181.2 (down 3.2 lbs)

Yesterday evening I started thinking about things like BMR's, RDI's, and the like!!! Blame it on Info ... he has been so wonderfully disciplined lately and has always encouraged me to remember this is "simple math" and I realized lately I wasn't keeping very close track of my calories.
BMR Calculator

So, indeed, according to this calculator, at my age and height, in order to maintain a weight of 175 it indicates if I was sedentary, lying about in bed all day, I could consume 1500 calories a day!! Interesting. I think when I return from vacation I might be up for an experiment!!! Paying close attention to the "math" and watching what happens.

Every once in a while I get real wrapped up in numbers. Something to focus on. Like this morning my 'numbers' said I lost 3.2 lbs overnight!! LOL!! It MUST be artificial but it was sure fun to see!!!! Now, to remain disciplined over the weekend and through next week to bring me to a nice balanced beginning of VACATION!!!

I bought some 40 Spice Hummus recently and it has been waiting for me in the refrigerator. I LOVE hummus!! And I know it is a 'good' food in moderation. So sad that one serving is a mere 2 tablespoons!!! So yesterday I bought myself some Pita Chips to go along with my hummus. I was so proud of myself ... I actually weighed out 2 oz. of Pita Chips and measured myself 3 tablespoons of hummus and STOPPED. It was difficult though ... it tasted SO GOOD!!!

However, it felt good to be disciplined and to make a clear and conscious choice NOT to eat anymore. I wasn't hungry any longer. It was getting later in the evening ... close to bedtime ... I heard the mantra in my head ... "I am disciplined and I like that about myself." LOL!!! I found myself thinking that a lot yesterday as I drove around the region, between home visits!!

Happy Friday everyone!!! Today is 'furlough Friday' for me ... a day at home ... time to start thinking about what to pack for my trip!!! I am feeling better ... more balanced these past few days. Not sure why, if it is the anticipation of vacation or the vitamins I've been taking. Maybe a little of both.

I have been trying to switch up my workout a bit too. I read somewhere recently that alternating between a comfortable pace and a pace where you are working really hard (I guess sort of like interval training?) is more effective for fat loss. So, I've been doing 4 minutes at incline 5 & resistance 5 and alternating for 4 minutes at incline 14 & resistance 14 (I really have to push myself at 14). Maybe that is having an effect on the scale and my mood as well??

The trees have a dusting of snow here. After we arrived home from work yesterday it snowed like CRAZY for about 30 minutes then stopped. It was blowing and swirling and looked like a HUGE storm!! Then the clouds cleared off and the stars shone brightly and it dropped down to about 25 degrees. So the trees are frosted but not much on the ground ... welcome to April!!!

Grateful ... I am!!!

1. opportunities at work to support my colleagues and the families I work with ... I am grateful others find my "support" helpful to them
2. hubby deciding to take care of himself and stay home from work to recuperate from this cold/virus ... whatever it is he has!!!
3. tax return is supposed to be direct deposited to my account today!!!
4. for simple math ... and the realization that all I need to is pay attention and follow through
5. mom gave me a gift certificate for a pedicure as an early birthday present (my birthday actually happens WHILE we are in Mexico) and I scheduled it for next Thursday so I'll have beautiful toes to flash in my sandals!!

Have a lovely day. I appreciate each of you so much!! We stick by each other ... through 'thick' and 'thin', 'ups' and 'downs', and motivate each other to stay conscious of our respective journeys. I am certain this "place" has made a difference for me on my journey ... thank you!!!

Yes ... I saw your answer but I would like to know MORE!!! Exactly why are coyotes good for you??? I would like to feel better about the usefulness of coyotes since they stir up fear in my heart!!

I just finished exercising and got back to your journal. I did the BMR thing which I know nothing about either. Mine came up 1140.65. Yea for your income tax refund. I just got mine too. A manicure and pedicure sounds great. I have been thinking about one for a couple months now but haven't wanted to spend the money but maybe soon now that the weather is getting nicer and people will see my ugly feet. lol When is your birthday Moose? Must be pretty soon. I am excited for your trip too. I have never been to Mexico. Enjoy your Friday!

My thought is ... when I return from vacation ... if I focus keeping my calories no more than my resting BMR for the weight I want to be then my body should naturally find its way to that weight over time. And ... it is a good number for me to keep in my head even though I know there will be times I consume more ... but I also know that I am burning more than my resting BMR ... especially on days I exercise which is nearly every day. I am just trying to find a way to keep going with this that doesn't involve me be obsessed about 'losing' weight. I am very close to where I think I could 'live' the rest of my life ... so what the heck is my hurry? But at the same time I do not want to be too lackadaisical in my approach. It is simply too easy for me to mindlessly graze and return to my 'old' habits of not really paying close enough attention. A fine balance ... I'm searching for that balance.

Excellent, 3.2 pounds! I see that there was no dilly dallying posting that one. ;-) 1500 calories sounds about right to me for you (compared to the calculation over 2000, that's off). To that you must add an allowance for what you do once you get up. As I mentioned yesterday, in my case, on a sedentary day, I need to add about 500 calories. There are good calculators that can give you a better number. Fatsecret probably has one and Livestrong.com definitely has a good one. Hummus is wonderful, it is so easy to make and homemade tastes so much better than what we get in stores. I would encourage you to try a couple of recipes with canned chickpeas (a matter of a few minutes). Mantra: You must have glanced at my mandala, that will burn it into your brain in a split second. ;-) I like the intervals with exercise too, especially the looooong ones (lol). Have a great Easter weekend my friend!
