abbadabba's Journal, 18 November 2016

I have a headache today, due to dehydration I am sure. Also not eating enough protein. Next week one of my coworkers is going for lap band surgery - I hope she does well with it, but I don't understand why she would go for it. I understand her desire to lose weight but it is pretty clear to me that there is nothing magic involved, even with surgery. A part of me is a little jealous, actually, thinking like "she is taking the easy way out" but really, I know that is not the case with the procedure so am trying to get over that feeling!

Happy Friday, all, and have a good weekend if I don't get back!

Drinking water is an important part of dieting. 0.7 is a good lose. Besides getting dehydrated you; your body retains water. You probably would have lost more, if your body was retaining water.

I know someone who had lap band done but she continued to eat poorly and stretched it out. So then she has to go back in and have it filled more and on and on...I think for some it is just the "edge" they need to succeed, some not so much. I considered bariatric surgery a couple of years ago but fear of complications stopped me. I still continue to keep my eye out for that magic wand/pill that will instantly make me thin and fit, I AM an optimist, lol!

People get desperate. Years ago, you'd hear about people actually getting their jaws wired shut to force them onto a liquid-only diet for an extended period of time.

Hi. First, congrats on the loss. i went through a week were i only lost .4 lbs and had to realize that it was sure better than a gain. so, good job. Yep, water is super important. had to learn that the hard way too. I was always dehydrated before. also, i of course, don't know your co-worker's reasons for having her surgery, but i can give you one reason ...my reason...why someone might do it. i was very dead set against weight loss surgery thinking it was an easy way out and a magic bullet that doesn't work. I've had family members who've done it and i kinda frowned on them for it. then i kept getting sicker and sicker despite all i was doing to loose weight. After all the damage and harm i've done over the years to my body, i had to realize that i needed way more help than just a good current diet fad thing. I had to get really serious. i thought i was having a heart attack a few months ago. It was bad. Turns out it was just an acute case of GERDS. Well, NOT Just, but very scary and i panicked. so, I've learned that it isn't an easy way out and definitely not a magic bullet. It's still scary, but if i don't do something drastic to get myself to a good point, i may not be here. so that'sjust one reason why someone might have surgery. blessings.

No need to be jealous because WLS isn't any "easy" way out. It comes with its problems and risks too. WLS isn't offering a way out; its offering a helping hand some need. For some it's a matter of life or death....impending death especially if they are dealing with an array of comorbidities associated with obesity. Be grateful you don't need to do this; not envious. Just focus on what you need to do and your goals. That should help you to get over this feeling.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts over this, especially the reminder that I have lots to be grateful about, having found the trainer I had and Fatsecret.

Maybe she is envious of your situation? Someone who doesn't have to go under the knife? You never know. Lots to be grateful for. :))

@OliverBe yes I got away from the whole foods I was eating and got into too much manmade cookies, cake and candy, and chips.
