What can I do about eating vegan, or vegetarian dishes prepared by someone else? I've had a house guest since the beginning of the year. She makes dinner for my sister & brother in-law (her son) at my house about twice a week, in addition to her own meals that I sometimes share in. It turns into a fight whenever I try to get an ingredient list for any of these dishes. I then try to use a recipe builder to figure out the calories. ARGH! I just don't have that kind time or patience anymore. So I'm only recording food that I can easily locate on the site until her departure next week (heavy sigh of relief!). While I won't be able to do accurate counts, at least I can maintain my sanity.

Wow, weird she won't tell you the ingredients. Do the best you can till she leaves. When you are in those kinds of situations, portion control can be your best friend.

That's totally bizarre.

Inconvenient - but not terribly odd. I've had friends with visitors from other countries that stayed for months. The way they might think about eating and the way WE think about it aren't always the same. Asking about the ingredients may well strike her as odd - or as an awful insult that you don't like the food. I think doing the best you can until she departs is probably your safest option. If you know she'll be back again, maybe have some alternative plans (and explanations!) in place for mealtimes.
