Diana 1234's Journal, 22 October 2021

Just an update on my dog Sydney. She is healing physically but still doesn't want to go out front. I think in time she will be ok. Her knee cap seems to be staying in place.
We went over to where the dogs that attacked us live today. The owners acted remorseful and agreed to pay for the vet bill. Their dog was adopted during Covid shutdown and they were allowed to take it home without getting him fixed. They said that the dogs didn't jump the fence, they actually pushed the damaged block wall until they were able to escape through a crack in wall. I guess a tree in their yard fell over onto the block wall during our last wind storm. They were upset that their dog had done this. They never denied it or anything so we left with the agreement that they would pay vet bill. I
I'm glad the ordeal is somewhat settled but I still feel so bad for my dog and I think it traumatized me more than I thought.

I'm glad the neighbors are going to step up. Give your pup time to recover. My first dog was fearless, but then he got mauled by a dog at the dog park. It took a year before I could get him back there. He would shake and act terrified if I said "car" which had been so exciting to him before. We just had to go step by step.

I feel terrible that this happened to you and your dog. Try to follow up that they get their dog fixed.

You might want to visit a behaviorist to help you both through. You’ve both been traumatized, it will take time.

Shouldn't anything be done with the attacking animals? Training at least?

What a relief that they will work with you. Having the safety of your home base and one that you love hurt makes it very understandable that this has lingered with you. Jist keep talking it out until your gut believes safety has returned. Or is that what is making you still concerned?

Glad the owners are taking responsibility! I think it goes beyond the dog needing to be neutered. A lot of people adopted dogs during Covid and because of the lockdown they weren't properly socialized. I hope your pup heals up both physically and emotionally 💓 Maybe set up a play date with your friends and loved ones pups. Or if there is a dog park nearby. Show her that she can be safe and happy meeting new friends.

Glad to hear the neighbors are being reasonable and your dog is recovering. I can imagine you were also traumatized! I have thought about getting a dog but situations like you just experienced have made me think more than twice about the wisdom of it. It may be difficult to convince your dog that this attack was not an everyday occurrence - if only they could read our minds!

Diana that’s what happened to us as well. Our neighbor’s huskies got into our yard. We have horse property and the fence is sooo long I can see them finding a spot to dig under. Our neighbors were so apologetic that they got rid of that one husky that attacked our dog and wrote the sweetest apology note. What can one do but go on from there. So happy you and I survived the attacks, many don’t. Blessings!💕
