Diana 1234's Journal, 30 August 2021

Same weight, surprisingly! Had a bad few days, food wise... Saturday was the 1st anniversary of the death of my MIL...it was a hard day. I surprised my husband with a Marie Calendars cherry pie cuz it was him and his mom's favorite. He was very touched. Of course I had to have a piece with him...
We just had a quiet day and shared memories...
Today is the start of my heart checkups. First is my pacemaker checkup. One of my atennas leads is broken and has been for a year but Dr is hesitant to replace it because of Covid situation in hospital...then go back in 2 weeks to see cardiologist. Last time I went they discovered a " glitch" in my ejection fraction. I'm at 45%. I guess 70% is what's considered normal..
Anyway, hope you all have a great week!

45%! Does the doctor allow you to work out hard? Can you work out hard? I guess not. You must get tired easily.

Tasso, yes my doctor is very aware of my diet and my hard workouts. He said that that is the reason I'm doing so well. My heart condition is progressive, ultimately I will it can lead to heart failure but I'm choosing to stay Positive and hope that it remains as is. It won'tget better though..but as long as I can still maintain working out as I do, I will. I do tire easily but who doesn't now days...💜💜💜 Erq, thank you, the pacemaker is still functioning because it has 2 atennas. My broken one is the localized one. The general antenna which is working can pick up other noises that can confuse the pacemaker.(like music, phones, etc) so far I've been lucky that I haven't had to much of a problem..💜

If they aren’t replacing the pacer I’m guessing you aren’t pacer dependent as yet. What is his criteria for going in and switching the pacer out.I’m also guessing you have progressive right ventricular failure but with a preserved ejection fraction which really does respond to a consistent physical activity.

Kenna, on ejection fraction issue I believe you are correct. It's a new diagnosis for me so not as knowledge as I'd like. As for pacemaker, when I first got it my pulse was anywhere from 28-40 bpm. ( which is why I needed the pacemaker) They think it is a birth defect as I'm young for the type I have..When I got pacemaker I was pacing at 92%. That was extremely worrisome but as of late I'm pacing around 80-85%. My cardiologist is very highly respected in Vegas but there is some question regarding his wanting to wait in replacing leads/pacemaker. I have a few doctor friends who are pushing me to get a 2nd opinion as they don't understand his reluctance in doing surgery.

How sweet of you to get their favorite pie for your husband. ❤ I sure hope your appointments and heart health situation can be remedied without complications. Hope you have a wonderful week as well. ❤

Diana1234– I would approach my doctor and specifically ask him why he is waiting to replace the pacer/wire— just a question, what is his thinking. Maybe he has a good answer, but you are pacer dependent so that is a valid concern

Diane1234– do you have any neurological problems? Please don’t feel like you have to answer if it is too personal.

You may or may not already know that just the wire can be removed and replaced depending on where it’s place, how well its granulated into the tissue and where the break in the wire is.

Kenna, no neurological problems that I'm aware of. Im not exactly sure what you are meaning. I appreciate your feedback very much! I'm going to ask cardiologist about why he is waiting...he has terrible bedside manner and is kind of arrogant.. I am aware that they can fix leads and not replace pacemaker. Dr said he wanted to try to wait until I need a battery replacement and only have to open me up once. Battery, according to device techs is good for 2-3 more years!! That's concerning to me!

There are cases of diastolic dysfunction requiring a pacemaker that can have a neurological origin. If someone begins to develop other symptoms like high or low BP, bladder dysfunction they might often take a look at a neurological tie in. The scenario is often a person too young for heart problems that would necessitate a pacer. It more than likely would not change the immediate course of treatment

Kenna,no problems like you mentioned. I have always had slow heart rate, just not that slow! My bp is also very low. 75/53 is not unusual. Had device check an hour ago. Monitor and device are working fine. Tech did mention outside noise issues but said it's not affecting the function of pacemaker. Battery still good for 4 more years.. All good news. I see cardiologist on Sept 13.

CC, thanks. Went for device check and it was basically good. Next is other issue with cardiologist in 2 weeks .My husband hasn't stopped telling his family and friends how touched he was that I remembered the cherry pie thing with him and his mom.I also wrote him a sweet note and he was just so grateful! Love is grand! 💜

Diana, my husband Joe always made his mother's favorite pie, Coconut Custard for Thanksgiving. One for the guests and one for his mother. It's his favorite too. She passed away 4 years ago, but he still makes that pie every Thanksgiving. I have never seen my rock of a husband so broken, as when his mother died. I love when you share about your marriage. It soeaks volumes about the quailty of both of yout characters. 💕
