Rob.c.weiss's Journal, 17 February 2014

Hi everyone!!! Wow, I've missed you guys.

So, I had my birthday last week... celebrated a bit. :D And work has been killer! So, the lifestyle has suffered more than a little. But work is going to be calming down here soon, and I am recommitted.

In the meantime, I've been reading up on Gary Taubes stuff, watching a bunch of videos from those recommending a ketogenic lifestyle. I've got to say it really makes a lot of sense. During my best weight-loss, my carb intake was quite low, but I never really knew of the impact that protein has on insulin. I was still keeping my protein right around 80-100g a day, so I still think I was actually within the guidelines of the ketogenic stuff for the most part, although I wasn't quite so focused on carbs.

I'm re-committing to my lifestyle, but I may have a slightly more ketogenic slant to it as I come back online here. Anyway, I hope to catch up with you all soon! Just a bit more to clean up at work, and I'll be back online here full-force! Sorry for being out of touch for so long, but I'll be back in and cheering you all on soon!

BEST WISHES ALL!!! Looking forward to talking to you all again soon.

Hey, thanks, Bill! Yeh, I've been thinking about you guys a lot. Even though I haven't been journaling (I just haven't had time), I've still found time to come on and read some of your journals and keep up on a lot of you guys. I just didn't have time for the back-and-forth, so I didn't really post. But I've been keeping an eye on you guys. You're doing GREAT! I know it may not seem like it, but the fact that you're right around 214 after so long is still a huge success! Good luck with the IIFYM change.

Protein doesn't harm he kidneys in people with normal kidney funtion, as studies have shown. However, people at risk for kidney disease, have high blood pressure, diabetes, and/or are over the age of 65, should keep their protein intake at a level below 1g per pound of bodyweight. People with healthy kidneys can consume up to 1.5g per pound of bodyweight without impact on the kidneys. Of course, you should always consume plenty of water to help rid your kidneys of the waste from protein synthesis.

Happy birthday, ROB!!!!! I have been reading up on the ketogenic diet, too. If I ate 1gram of protein for each pound I weigh, I would be eating 200 grams of protein and that isn't happening anytime too soon. LOL! I am lucky to eat 90g.
