Happy Friday, February 14th, 2014!!

It finally arrived. No, not "Valentines Day" but just simply Friday!!! We're not big on celebrating this date. Truth be told DH is working nights and even if he was on days we'd both probably be too tired to drag ourselves out tonight anyway!!! I am glad it is Friday. For some reason this has seemed like a LONG week.

Truly I don't have much to write today. Mom and I watched a movie last night "Enough Said" ... it was okay. Not terrible, not great. Work was good. Actually put a bunch of papers in the bin for shredding. My "stall" at work has looked like a tornado hit it for quite some time. It actually looks semi-organized. I have HUGE stacks of "to keep" papers that I should go through and put in file folders, or binders, or something but at least the PILES of old staff meeting minutes, mileage forms, folders of kids who are no longer in the program are gone. I may not recognize my own cubby today!!

You'd laugh. 2 years ago in September we had a 'storage unit' sale. I used to collect stuffed animals, well both my mom and I so we had a lot. There were 2 big boxes left over at the end of the weekend. DH didn't want me to donate them to the Animal Shelter Thrift Store or Goodwill, wanted me to give them to an organization would would give them directly to needy kids. We dropped those boxes off at my office. They are still there!!! Geesh!!!

Okay, my quiet time is up. I hear my mom moving upstairs. I think I need to make juice this morning, pretty sure I should squeeze some kind of exercise/stretching in, and need to get on with this beautiful day! Did I mention not only is it Friday but it is payday Friday?!?! Oh yes!!!!

Grateful for ....

Yes, finally Friday. My second fav day of the week - Sunday being #1. Back in the day ... I learned a valuable lesson about letting all that stuff pile up in my office; when I left to go to a new job it took a truck to get my stuff out of there... I'd accumulated personal furniture, a bird, fish tank, plants... yikes. And ...my boss found out 'I would leave' because she'd look at my office and say 'you aren't going anywhere' and sometimes she was right... I stuck with a job rather than have to clean out the office. After that.. I learned to clear my office of personal effects at least every six months and made a rule I never let anything stay there that couldn't be carried out in a single file box. This 'traveling light' kept me more open to other career opportunities and at least three times (my bosses changed often) it resulted in a raise because they didn't know of my one-box plan and thought I was on the verge of resigning hence the 'carrying personal items' out day. Happy Friday!

Yay for Friday! I'm with you. I'm trying to get my office organized right now as well, but I'm definitely not doing a very good job at it!

Still thinking about your office and my unsolicited advice, esp after reading Glen's comments. I do recall back in the day when of my bosses commented my 'cube' was so tidy it didn't look like I was working... something about stacks and piles seemed to indicate activity ((while, they were quite the opposite ...)) It was just like colleagues who seemed to think displaying 'stress' and 'exhaustion' were indicators of dedication and hard work. My laid back mood and immaculate office were interpreted as 'slacking'. Now, I never had a bear bigger than me in any office.. but it sounds like a good prop. Pile it up ... look weary .. and no one will ever give you additional projects. There, that's my career advice for the day.

LOL!!! I have a baby in my office!! She looks real. I use her to demonstrate infant massage with parents. It's funny, it sometimes freaks people out. I have toys too. I use them for assessments. Never have time to play with them though. Darn. Unfortunately, whether my office is tidy or messy it doesn't impact my workload. I feel better when it is tidy. But I can never decide what papers are important to keep or shred. Funny, rarely do I ever read anything I think is important to print out. Ah ... today will be not much time there anyway so no worries!!
