I finally read about ketosis Wholefoodnut. It's definitely interesting but a little extreme for me heheh. Thanks again for the information! :)

Me also. Did atkins a couple times. It was too hard for me to follow though, doesn't work very well if you don't eat much meat and fatty foods simply make you sick. :))

To be honest, I'm glad you're not following it too! ;) Of course that going to those extremes may boost some particular aspect and even make you lose a little more weight but, in the end, it will probably catch up with us health-wise :P

Hard to tell on the atkins. It's like everyone ignores the fact he died of a massive heart attack. Just saw your post, had missed it. My dad had high cholesterol so i tend to watch my saturated fat intake. Try to keep all fats averaging less than 30%. Course avocados will jump it up. Figure i eat what i want to. I like good food too well to eat processed junk. Just need to avoid the beer, wine, and cooking with cream

I didn't know that about Atkins! :P Cholesterol with all the LDL and HDL is so complex. I tried reading about it but there's so much conflicting information. My father knows two doctors. One of them says avoid cholesterol, the other one has a huge LDL, completely ignores it and also tells everyone to ignore it lol. It's very difficult to tell what's what. :P Traditional health guidelines certainly tell you to run from it like the plague... And they may be right but I wish I could know for sure lol. My policy to defend myself, in my ignorance, is always not to exaggerate with any type of foods or food types :P

Keep in mind that some say that, to keep LDL down, you should eat less carbs and not less fats. I don't have a clue whether this is true or not but it's certainly confusing lol :P I think it's a good plan to eat natural. That, in itself, will probably help you steer clear of heart disease!

Have to get the annual bloodwork done this spring. My hdl/ldl ratios etc. have always been really good. Last time doc said if everyone's were that good it would put many cardio docs out of business. Must be doing something right they might even be better this year since i'm drinking much less beer and wine. Will take a look at those though.

I avoid the debate and keep eating my beans. Lol

That's great about the LDL and HDL! :) Yeah, you definitely are doing something right! I have to take some blood tests some of these days. I haven't taken them for a while heheh :).

Just one more article. Absolutely sorry for the bother! lol : http://tinyurl.com/o8yyu84

Beans are an excellent food! :)

By what it seems, it is only "pattern B" LDL that we should be worried about. And the overall LDL number in our blood tests doesn't tell us whether we have "pattern B" or "pattern A" :)

No idea about that. My diet falls within the American heart associations recommendations. Including the 25-35% fats with no more than 7% saturated. 4-5 cups of fruits and veggies per day, i don't always hit the 2 servings of fish per week, 3 servings of whole grains per day. 4 servings of legumes, seeds, nuts. No more than 2 servings of processed meats and no more than 7% saturated fat. Interesting that there is no mention of poultry or meat.

If that's working for you, keep doing it! :) I have been doing more less this: Carbohydrate (36%) - Fat (43%) - Protein (21%) heheh. :)I also eat fruits, and I should eat more legumes legumes but I'm always lazy to do so lol. The only thing I'm not eating is the grains, and the only fish I've been eating is canned sardines so one of my goals is to start eating fresh sardines instead lol (the ones that come frozen to be more exact). Meat is also a controversial subject :) But that's definitely strange.

I'm preparing a steak as I type this lol. I love beef but it's darn expensive! :)

I think that my diet can be cathegorized as MCMF (medium carbs medium fat) but a little more on the fat side :) The difference is usually more noticeable than in this specific example.

Steak is a good treat. Tastes really good now and then, just not something i eat very often. My son-in-law keeps me supplied with his catfish filets, i keep a case of iqf wild salmon 4 oz portions, and another of either swai or tilapia in the freezer, pick up bags of shrimp when they are on sale. easy to thaw out for a quick dinner. Looked at canned sardines last week but didn't get them. Not sure i can find fresh ones here and they are little.
