Good morning!

It's Sunday morning, and I'm waiting for "my" drummer to pick me up for band practice.

I'm really looking forward to it, even if our singer isn't showing up today. Since he isn't there, we're gonna work on a new song. Well, it isn't really new as it's something I wrote 2½ years ago, but it's the first time it's gonna be used for anything other than just an exercise in guitar for me. It's a good, solid song, and I would love to play it with the band.

...

I did bad on the diet yesterday. The stress is a real bother.

I had WAY too many carbs from fun (crap) foods and I knew it. I'm okay with it.

However, I did make absolutely sure to meet my protein/fat/fiber goals for the day.

The results are actually interesting.

I'm WAY up in weight. I gained 2½ kilos since yesterday.

What is REALLY interesting is that not only is the gain mainly fluid - I'm up three full kilos in fluid - but I'm actually 800g DOWN in bodyfat!

Does that mean that I can eat myself thin in candy?! LOL. Probably not.

...

I was writing a little back and forth with a guy online last night. He pointed out something that I haven't really given too much thought, though I should have.

It's about my attempt to drop a kilo of fat right now.

This is a bad idea, since I am also trying to get back on my feet on my workouts.

If I want to (re)build muscle, I should not be in a calorie deficit. Actually, I should be in a slight surplus.

Being in a surplus is SCARY. Very scary. I'm not sure I can do that, mentally. I'm stressing enough as it is. But I can do maintenance.

And, as my dear buddy Draglist also mentions, maybe I should be a little less strict on my calories right now, dealing with so much crap in my work life.

So, I'm taking the calorie deficit away. I'm gonna set my numbers to give me an absolutely minimalistic surplus. I don't need more than just a tiny bit, say gain a pound over a month or so. That's all.

The challenge is also to eat all that from "proper food" sources. Today, I will then be allowed 3250 calories, based on my numbers from previous physical activities (averages from the last week) and previous intakes.

In these calculations I'm even paying off some of the huge calorie intake from yesterday.

So, here we go. I can't say it's not a welcome change. I stress enough already.

...

So, new intake goals are:

- Reach 3250 calories today. Phew. That's a LOT.
- Minimum 190g of protein.
- Minimum 66g of fat
- Between 38 and 47 grams of fiber.

It's a LOT of protein, but I'm used to it. It's nothing I can't reach.

The hardest part is to get the fiber in. I use Psyllium Husk to help me reach those numbers.

I've taken to grab a scoop of it in water in the morning. I suppose I break my fast, technically, but it takes me just a few minutes to burn out those 15 calories. I won't worry about that.

...

Today, I'm thankful for:
- Getting to rock out with great friends!
- Wife!
- Knowing that I have an army of support behind me.
- Morning coffee!

Life is good!

I hope your band practise can relieve some of your stress... Have a great time. Good that you are always researching and have 'hooked up' with someone who can advise you. It makes sense what he says - although I can understand how scary it must feel.

I like oatmeal and prunes to help with my fiber but I am sure I probably still do not get enough on a daily basis. I hope you have a fun day and just relax. Don't worry about so much. :)

What will your carbs be? Not knowing your diet, have you considered oatmeal, flax and chia for fiber? I can get over 20g just in breakfast with that combination.
