Good morning, and HAPPY WINTER SOLSTICE!

It's the shortest day of the year today, and we can now start looking forward to longer days and more light. Living in Denmark, and true to my viking ancestry, I like this. Denmark is DARK these days.

...

Speaking of "Dark"...

How does one know that he has the most awesome Wife in the world?

Well, we went shopping and she snuck this little gem past me without me realizing, only to hand it over as a "pre-christmas" present today. Wow. Thank you, babe. I love you!

I really wanted to post the music from it, but it doesn't seem to be on Spotify, so I will have to "settle" for their latest album. Not a bad settlement, it's one of my favorite albums of 2013.

As always, plug up your media player to a stereo system, and turn it up. This is classic and/or modern rock at its best. :)

Today's weigh-in is horrible. Absolutely terrible.

Today is one of those days, where I am so happy that I can take a look at my average numbers to calm me down.

Pretty much every single number is bad today.

I'm up in weight. I'm up in body fat. I'm down in muscle mass. I'm down in fluid. I'm down in TDEE. I'm up in abdominal fat.

Fortunately, the averages numbers tell me to calm the heck down and just keep going. Averages read no damage on ANY number. If anything, a few of them are actually still better. :)

Phew.

Take a look at the numbers:

Weight:
Day after surgery: 82.4 kg
20.12.13: 83.6 kg (down)
21.12.13: 84.1 kg (up)
Average 7 days: 83.3 (up)
Average 28 days: 82.7 (steady)

Bodyfat:
Day after surgery: 07.5% (6.18 kg)
20.12.13: 08.6% (7.18 kg - up)
21.12.13: 10.8% (9.08 kg - up)
Average 7 days: 9.1% (down)
Average 28 days: 10.0% (steady)

Muscle weight:
Day after surgery: 72.5 kg
20.12.13: 72.6 kg (down)
21.12.13: 71.3 kg (down)
Average 7 days: 72.0 kg (up)
Average 28 days: 70.8 kg (steady)

Fluid Percentage::
Day after surgery: 68.5% (56.44 kg)
20.12.13: 66.6% (55.61 kg - down)
21.12.13: 64.8% (54.50 kg - down)
Average 7 days: 66.3% (up)
Average 28 days: 65.6% (steady)

Total Daily Energy Exp.:
Day after surgery: 3379 calories
20.12.13: 3391 calories
21.12.13: 3337 calories
Average 7 days: 3364 calories (up)
Average 28 days: 3310 calories (up)

Abdominal fat:
Day after surgery: 4
20.12.13: 4 (steady)
21.12.13: 5 (up)
Average 7 days: 4.3 (steady)
Average 28 days: 4.7 (steady)

Not bad numbers at all, really.

...

The numbers are most likely because of Wife and I going out yesterday. We were out all day, ate mostly restaurant food, and even if I was cautious and recorded all my food to the best of my abilities, it is hard to do anything but ballpark it. I did my best though, and end result was that I was 100 calories over goal. No biggie.

...

Today will be a little of the same. We have a Christmas luncheon at noon. I will make the better choices, but of course with a focus on getting all my calories in through the day, and getting enough protein and fat.

Dinner tonight will be home made burgers. Whole wheat buns, lean meats, oven roasted fries. It's all good.

...

I went to the hospital for my checkup yesterday. They took out the stitches from the cuts, and it all looks like it's healing nicely.

The hose where I have been draining my fluid from has now healed and closed. There was a tiny bit of fluid sitting in there, but nothing really worth doing anything about.

This means no more nurse visiting. I'm happy about this. It's really weird to be standing butt naked in front of strangers all the time. I don't think I'll ever get used to that. Also, it's even weirder when they're really curious about the whole weight loss thing, and they want to chit chat. I know it's everyday procedure for them. For me, though, it's not.

So, I am now risking a little more fluid build-up, since I can't get to drain it. It shouldn't be more than what my body can absorb over time - and not TOO long time. I'm cool with that.

I'm supposed to wear the girdles for a couple of weeks, then I should be able to drop it. I hope so. They're TEDIOUS!

...

So, I asked the surgeon about exercise. I know, I'm benched right now due to both surgery and heart conditions (gee, that should so bad, it's really not...), so I can't get my pulse up more than just a wee bit. But she told me that when I am done with my heart thing in three weeks, as long as the OTHER doctors okay my workouts, there shouldn't be any more limitations in regards to the surgery, other than of course for me to use common sense. Don't do a million pull-ups or things that can prevent my stomach skin from attaching itself. Be smart about it.

I am already now allowed to walk. I can basically walk as much as I want, as long as I watch my pulse. I'm so used to walking, it barely affects my pulse, so I am good to go. I have been missing my walks badly, so I am all excited to go.

Also, I am curious how that little extra calorie burn will affect my weight, and especially my body fat percentage.

...

I started walking yesterday. I made 18,000 steps. It was NICE.

...

Today, I'm thankful for:
- WEEKEND!
- Going out with Wife. It's nice to have her home. I hate that she's working tomorrow, but I'm excited that she'll have three days off afterwards.
- Morning coffee!
- Walking a little later today.

Have a great weekend, buddies! Life is good!

LOL - yes, girdles ARE tedious. I am of the generation that wore those growing up - back when they could double as bullet proof vests! You could wear a girdle or you could breathe and sit; never at the same time. Good thing your recovery doesn't require you wearing high heels or you'd really know the pain of a woman :-) I think that casual conversation is supposed to put you at ease, like, 'yeah, we know you're naked but we see this every day so relax' but I've never been at ease with it either. Glad you got your drain out - one less thing invading your body. Take care buddy and keep mending.
