shirfleur 1's Journal, 01 March 2021

Last week a group of us gathered for lunch to celebrate two birthdays. We have been meeting every Friday for about 30 years; we go to a movie and have dinner; we call ourselves the Friday Night Group (very original). I'm one of the youngest, at 77. We've all had our Covid shots and we've all been living in isolation, so we decided we could safely meet for a late lunch. We went to a large restaurant, only four tables were occupied and no one was within 15 feet of us. This is the first time we have gotten together in a year and we could not stop talking, our lunch lasted 3 and a half hours! Much has changed in the last 30 years and now, due to deaths and divorces, we all live alone (there were six of us). What does this have to do with FS you ask? This is just one example of the stress we have all been living with for a year now, and yet we're still here, still striving to live healthier lives. Stay safe and stay vigilant my friends, there is a light at the end of this long, very dark tunnel. 💛

Beautiful post Shir. I’m so happy you saw your friends. As hard as it’s been on us younger folks, I’m sure it’s been even worse for our young seniors, especially those who live alone. You are one very strong lady. I respect you. ❤️🙏

So glad you were able to meet with your friends again! Before covid, about 8 of the ladies from our church would get together once a month. I don't know when we will get to start again! We just called ourselves the old ladies group!

While not diet and exercise related, your story is relevant because it falls under the category of health and well being.

Love it! I have a group shipmates from my first Navy Ship (1958--1960); we had annual reunions until 2013; we still stay in touch by email and at 90 I am the youngest survivor.

Sounds fun!! I can't wait to get a vaccine so I can have get-togethers at restaurants again. I really miss doing that.

I am so happy you got to spend time with friends again! It sounds like you had a wonderful time. I am a nurse and work at a nursing home and I had been a recluse for many, many months. Some of my friends still went out during all of this but most of them did get Covid. I have never had it and now I am fully vaccinated. I am going to my son and daughter-in-laws in two weeks for my 60th birthday (yikes) and I can't wait! We are going out for dinner one night and I am looking so forward to it! And, I agree with you, there is a light at the end of this dark tunnel!

It was great to be together again, but we're not ready to find in restaurants on a weekly basis yet! Texas, I love "the old ladies," hope you'll be able to get together soon. Cowboy, your story touched my heart, so glad you've been able to stay in contact with your shipmates. Thank you for your service! Debbie, what a grand way to celebrate your 60th, have a wonderful time. And thank you for your service too, you nurses have been on the front lines during this pandemic, you all deserve medals! 💛💜💚

Good for you! That is what this is about. Get our vaccines, wear a mask when we go to Walmart but when we can get together with others WHO HAVE ALSO BEEN VACCINATED, we need to do so. Spring and summer are coming and we can do more group activities outdoors again. This is a good start. Congratulations.
