Some ups and some downs, but overall, I've only lost an average of 1.5 pounds in 45 days. My struggle has always been to keep my weight up, so for me on maintenance, this is doing well.

I've been keeping busy with housework projects and yardwork for both my home and my parents' that the calorie burn is enough to maintain without the gym.

I haven't picked up a weight or exercised in about a month now and am totally content being on pause until it's safe to go back to the gym. I realize I may need to suffer a giant setback on how much I can lift at first, but honestly, it'll be nice to start over.

According to my measurements, I've really only lost 1/2" (nothing really noticeable even though I joke around about it a lot). I'm sold on the fact that the combo of protein and carbs have kept me from wasting away 💪🏻.

So, for me, it's one of those "if only I knew then what I know now" things... I'll drop my weights a bit, apply all that I've learned about weightlifting since 2018, and trust that muscle memory will rebound my gains faster than it initially took to achieve them.

Just biding my time and keeping on with maintaining what I've got 🤘🏻

I really believe that our bodies are going to be fantastic just from a little break and then hitting it hard. Who knows?- We may look so awesome that we just take off from the gym from Mar 15- July 1 every year. haha. Seriously though- I have plans on looking completely amazing- loose skin and all. ;)

I agree with you two. I feel pretty good from my break except for my shoulder which I tweaked doing yard work and fixing up the house.

Hopefully it's something that rights itself and you'll be ready to go again!

Yes, I hope so. I was doing plenty of chest and shoulder work before the setback, but I think the work around the house did me in. It’s forcing a true break from working out that area.

Dude- I didn't know you can't even open jars anymore and your wife has to carry in the heavy bags. Maybe you should do just a few sets a day. 😝💪🏻

So great, Chris! Taking some time to focus on other things is maybe a healthy reset for all of us both mentally and physically. I suspect it is harder for you true lifters to not be able to go to the gym. I am just so, so thankful it isn't the middle of winter. I would have gone both completely crazy and soft without being able to work outside.

I was texting with a friend earlier today, he is "lifting" those five gallon drums of paint as part of his modified gym routine. Two of them are secured to a piece of pipe and two others are for bicep/tricep curls and the like. I suggested he set his goals on 50 gallon drums next. He said I was very helpful. I wonder if he was serious???

Not lifting and maintaining shouldn't be in the same sentence. You can maintain with one tough set per week per muscle, no need for a set back when it's that simple. That's something I read in a post from Lyle Mcdonald who I believe is a genius when it comes to lifting/nutrition. But if you need a mental break from it all, go for it.

Not trying to be a downer, I just know what it's like to lose muscle and gain fat while gaining weight, let alone maintaining, the loss of muscle would be even higher in that case. I always kicked myself for it.

It used to happen to me every winter.

Yeah...he told me the same thing. 😉 I think one heavy set per muscle is more than doable. 💪🏼🏋️‍♀️

Excellent post!! It’s a great reminder we are all going through the same thing. I was beating myself up because I have not been getting my 5 day a week work outs in, more like 2 and it’s all mental. In my case I think it’s shear boredom of using the same dumbbells over and over. I want access to a cable machine damn it!! 😂

@Mike That's what I am missing the most, too- but I say that and then if I had one at home- I probably wouldn't want to use it. HAHA. 1st I needed more dumbbells, then I needed a bench- now I have both and I struggle to put in 15-20 minutes. :)

Same here DP. There’s something about going to the gym that keeps me motivated.
