Yesterday I ended up with just under 1800 kcal. I ate pasta, gravy, meat, banana bread and lots of candy. I also had a protein shake just because I wanted one. Carbs the last two days have been over 200g. Fat was over 100g Tuesday 😳. I added salt to my meals, but obviously not enough to really matter.

So far I’ve found that 1800 is about where I want to be on a daily basis. 2000-2500 on days I eat out. With those calorie numbers I can basically eat what I want in any amount I want within reason.

Yesterday I ate as I did a couple years ago when I gained 10# over 7 months. That doesn’t sound like a lot to most people I’m sure but for someone who was already carrying around 30# extra because of pregnancy weight I never had lost plus chemo weight it seemed like a lot to me. The only difference was that back then I had 2-4 140 calorie cans of coke and yesterday I had a protein shake and propel water. I also was fine with a chicken breast for lunch when before I would’ve added in two handfuls of chips with it. Dinner and snacks were the same foods and portions. So back then I was probably eating/drinking about 2400ish calories a day to go from 150-160 so quickly. This tells me that if I keep eating that many calories for a week or two that I WILL gain weight again. I’m still thinking 1800-2000 is where I might be able to stay.

Let’s hope it stays the same the rest of the week and then I can move calories from 1500-1600 to 1800 :). That 200 kcal a day (1000-1500 per week) is the cushion I want for eating out and being able to enjoy more of the things I love. I’d love to start baking more again and be able to enjoy a thick slice of buttered bread, 2 slices of banana bread or 2-3 brownies guilt free without worrying that I’ll gain weight again.

Did you have less muscle back when you were gaining those ten pounds? Sounds like you have a good plan figured out. I'll be interested to know how it works out. I'd like to stabilize being able to eat more than 1500 to 1700 a day, which is what I'm at now. Amen to eating some home made bread!

I have no idea how much muscle I had then. I know I can lift 50# bags of feed or seed a little easier now. If I had to guess I’d say I did lose some muscle because when on chemo I didn’t feel like carrying all the groceries, carrying the feed, working in the yard etc. So I basically had 5 months of doing very little with surgery and chemo then down 6 weeks after each of the next few surgeries. It actually took me a year after that to feel up to doing those things again. I’m pretty sure I could’ve lost a lot of muscle tone in that time.

Peeper, you are one strong lady to have gone through all that. I can't even imagine. I'm so glad you are healthy and strong now... I know you are concerned about what is up with your heart and what your body has done to deal with the medication you had to have, but that you have fought your way back to fitness is truly inspirational. I'm awfully glad you are here!

Aww thank you! I don’t consider myself strong. I just did what was necessary to have the best chance of long term survival. Food was my comfort during it all. When I could eat that is. I didn’t make the best food choices then and after which is why I came here in the first place lol.
