Sooooo yesterday, I went for my first run in 6-7 years! Being the overzealous goofball I am, I figured it would be a good idea to wear my weighted vest @ 25lbs... wrong!

OUCH! MY CALVES ARE SO SORE!!

I couldn't breathe as deeply as necessary since the vest is a wrap-around, it changed my center of gravity so my form was too upright which made my steps choppy, and... well, without cardio for so long, the added weight just crippled me lol.

I'm using the Couch to 5k (C25K) app which paced me as walking 1.5 minutes for every 1 minute of running for the first week. I only survived half the workout ☹

I'll be running 3 days a week now and only wearing the vest for the first of those days - lesson learned 👍🏻
155.0 lb Lost so far: 3.0 lb.    Still to go: 0 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.

I read your post yesterday, and no offense but I assumed this outcome 😂. My brother was a huge fan of the weight vest. He took 4 months off from it, then tried it again. He made it 5 minutes into his usual hour.

I confess, this girl took a lesson from her bro. Before I got the weighted vest, he brought his over so I could try it out. I do more cardio than him on the whole, but was being a bit cocky and said "I'll just start out doing my walking circuits with the full 20 lbs." He replied, "really, because I've just worked myself up to 16 lbs. and started at 8." I kinda chewed that one over for a bit. I have good stamina, but I also have bad sciatica and 2 numb legs, lol. Mom said to me, "remember your brain and body have adjusted to being 120 lbs. or so, it may be a whole different story with even 10 extra pounds." I can honestly say, both of them were right. My body adjusted quickly to the initial 8 lbs on the vest, but after increasing it to 12 lbs, I ain't too shy to state - I'll be doing my walking circuits with only 12 lbs on the weighted vest for a little bit before this body adjusts to be sure! On the other hand, whenever I wear it - it reminds me I prefer to wear that weight on a vest I can take off, and thankful it is no longer the burden of excess fat I used to carry on my body 24/7. It's a good "why"

There's a guy who runs in my neck of the woods with one of those vests. Totally hard core man! Be careful!

dude, the SEALS are crazy sneaky quiet on the beach here. I've been down there just ditzing around with the dogs and BOOM, there they are out of nowhere. it's crazy and cool at the same time.

you should look up their workouts on YouTube where they take people through a day of their training. they're nowhere near the gym.

Nothing like over doing it first time out! 😁 It is amazing how the extra weight that was just part of life feels so incredibly heavy now. I picked up a 40 pound bag of animal food then other day and the thought that I was carrying more than that every day really caused me pause. Never going back! Thanks for being here, Chris!

I ran 5 miles 3-4 days ago. Calves are still a little sore. The fact that I did it nonstop is all the proof I need that lifting keeps the heart tip top alone.

I idea on the vest but good for you running! Can't do that as old leg injury have to do really low impact.
