Fritzy 22's Journal, 14 October 2019

I will post my weight every Sunday, but also, just can't help it when there is at least a 1 pound loss in between Sundays!
Spent part of yesterday making lists trying to see if it's even possible for me to go vegetarian full time. I'm trying to give up dairy and from my lists I won't come close to a minimum 40 grams of protein without dairy. I don't like lots of things vegetarians eat - tofu, edamame, soy products (other than soy nuts as a snack). But I can do it maybe once a week without dairy. Trying today with meatless chili. And I think eventually I will add dairy totally back to my diet. Just waiting to see eliminating/reducing dairy will change my blood test result for CRP (inflammation).
Trying to put items with at least 4 to 5 protein grams to have most days instead of dairy. Eggs are good, but I limit them to 4 or so a week. There is a sprouted grain bread (Alvarado Street Bakery) that has 6 grams of protein and only 80 calories. Doesn't taste that great, but if I toast it and ad 1 tablespoon peanut butter it's almost 10 grams of protein. Grape nuts has 6 grams of protein, but must have milk with it, so at least another 4 to grams of protein. Almost everyone on FS obsess over carbs, for me, I obsess over protein.
184.6 lb Lost so far: 0 lb.    Still to go: 22.6 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.

Maybe add something like Egg Beaters in with your eggs?

I obsess over protein as well. I want to eat a lot. Have you considered protein powders. There are non dairy ones to be had. I love my little shakes.. especially the ones with avocado or spinach.

Liv - I have tried protein powders and shakes and even bars, etc. But my doctor told me to eliminate processed food as much as possible. I asked him, if I could keep either processed meat or protein powders, which would be better. He said don't have either, they are both processed food. This is for an anti inflammation diet. Shirfleur - haven't tried egg beaters, are they just the whites? I'd rather skip eggs altogether! But maybe a way for additional protein.

That is a lot of elimination happening in your diet. You have to eat something. So does this mean you would not do things like veggie burgers? A lot of people love those even if they are not vegetarians. Jackfruits, mushrooms Edamane, chia seeds may be good ones too. Protein enriched breads as well.

Liv - it's been going on for about 2 years, trying to limit processed foods. It's a slow process. The processed meat part isn't that hard. Once in awhile I will have a deli sandwich, less than once a month. I've just discovered lentils and am going to try to find some recipes with them. I haven't tried veggie burgers. I have tried sprouted grain bread and that is a good way for 6 grams of protein. I just keep trying and finding new things. Seems like beans are necessary

Keyten - I could do that for 21 days! I think I try to do something similar anyway. Other than no tea. Do you know if honey is allowed? I sometimes make raspberry and vinegar and olive oil dressing, but it needs a little honey.

Maybe I'll try it soon. Maybe set up a challenge for others to do it with me. What do you think?

I may try it soon. It isn't that much different than what I've been trying to do. I think it may help get the lab results I need for inflammation. 3 weeks isn't that long. I've been reducing dairy anyway, don't eat much meat or eggs. Just eat minimal amounts of bread. Maybe I won't stress so much about protein.

I have that meatless stew recipe in my favorites! I am doing vegetarian Monday today with meatless chili for dinner.

Keyten - just reading the label on the canned kidney beans I use to make chili - the ingredients include sugar! I know I can buy them in bulk. I am anticipating more meatless stews and meatless chili. But I use canned tomatoes. Have to check into that. Imagine I may end up putting raw tomatoes in the blender.

Fritz, Aldi's has some beans that have nothing else in them. And Red Gold tomatoes do not add sugar in their regular tomatoes.

Are you not eating fish or seafood for a particular reason? I know it’s not part of vegetarianism but a great source of protein.

Swedishblondie - I don't like fish much. I will have shrimp sometimes (just threw some out after a 2 day power outage ruined lots of my food) and tuna from a can. I just often don't think about tuna. I have bought other fish and put it in stir frys, but really don't like it. I like fish and chips! But doesn't fit into my WOE.

Fritzy, Egg Beaters is egg whites. I don't know if there are any additives, but there are other brands, check them out. As for fish, not all fish taste the same. When buying fish, give it the sniff test, it should have a light, clean odour; if it smells strong or "fishy" it isn't fresh. Try gulf red snapper or grouper or mahi mahi, they are mild flavored. Also, very important they not be overcooked. Generally 10 minutes per inch of thickest part. Good luck. 🌈🌈🌈
