Recently got reminded of how much water our large intestine can hold when reading about what substances makes it into a wet sponge. Water facors... ohhh.

Day Two: Tough today. I felt very draggy. Kept my carbs under 35. Have a great night🙋

Hi Alnona, Low electrolytes can cause that. With low carb, your body sheds salt, can cause fuzzy thinking, dizziness, headaches and constipation. Have a cup of salty broth or bouillon a couple of times every day; and use LiteSalt or NoSalt so that you get adequate potassium too.

It will get better, set a goal of pushing through this week. @Gz9gjg...I am not low carb dieter - how long does the adjustment last - is ~2 weeks correct?

Our kidneys determine our salt balance. They have the ability to excrete large amounts down to almost nothing. The kidneys, however, cannot maintain a healthy salt balance if there are big losses (extended exercise periods, lots of sweating, etc) that are not replaced. Most often, hyponatremia is the result of replacing sweat loss with plain water. A high urine output is not synonymous with a high sodium loss.

AMT, initial keto adaptation takes 2 to 6 weeks; but physiological changes continue for up to six months. For example, the liver gradually increases glycogen production from protein break-down byproducts, returning muscle glycogen to pre-keto levels by about six months.

gz9gig. Muscle glycogen is synthesized in the muscles themselves not in or by the liver. Once glycogen stores are replenished, excess glucose is stored as fat. It makes no difference to the body if the glucose source is from gluconeogenesis of carbohydrate fragments derived from protein breakdown or from glucose generated by the metabolism of carbohydrates.
