So excited. Hubby has an appointment so we are going to get body scans done too! I can’t wait to see what my body composition really is. Everything I read says they have a 0.5-2% error whereas the scales have 4-16% margin of error depending on scale, obesity, muscle tone (athletes), when your last workout was and hydration levels. If I’m really 30% BF I’ll be dieting again and to heck with building muscle. I’m hoping for 25% BF and 30% SM 😁.

I’ll also finally know if the implants read as fat or muscle. Dehydration causes the scales to overestimate fat. Since my implants are a cohesive gel I would assume they’d cause an increase in electrical resistance such as dehydration therefore causing them to read as fat. If so then yay! 4# of ‘fat’ it’s been reading that I don’t actually have to lose 😁.

I didn’t realize we would do this until late last night so I already ‘broke’ some rules. Had a beer and didn’t hydrate appropriately. Drank a lot before bed, as my repeated overnight bathroom breaks can attest, but that’s not the same as hydrating like crazy all day. One dr told me I may tend to stay a bit dehydrated because of the condition of my skin and I’m rarely thirsty. Even when I drink water every couple of hours I never have achieved the ‘hydrated skin’ lol.

Now I just need to get the pounding headache to go away and my hair to dry so we can leave in about 5 minutes lol. Good luck to me on those haha. It’s a 2 hour drive though so if nothing else I’ll stick my hair out the window hehe. People may mistake me for a chocolate lab with my hair color! I’ll remember not to let my tongue hang out though 😉.

Happy Monday all! May you have a healthy, happy and blessed week ahead!

BMI vs BF%. Be more concerned on the BF% (body fat%) vs Body Mass Index. They are usually 5 to 10 points different.

Interesting, I can't wait for the results! 👍

I’m not concerned with BMI. Hubby used to be very fit and athletic and his BMI was super high. Mine was low yet I was skinny fat with barely any muscle. BF and SM are what I’m worried about. Bone info would be nice too since they said I was ‘flirting’ with osteopenia awhile back. Water would also be nice to know but not necessary.

Me either Keilin! I’ll do my best to screenshot the papers and post them later or tomorrow.

I don’t know for certain, but I’d guess that the implants will have no effect. If you are doing an In-Body scan, it seems to measure fat content in hands and feet as a projection of your overall body fat/ muscle. I’ll look up how this really works 🤔

We are doing a DEXA scan. Same type of machine that reads bone density. We have a BIA scale at home and it doesn’t seem accurate. I can gain or lose 4-5% BF in a week then lose or gain it back the next week lol. The later I’m the day I step on it the higher my SM% will be. 🤷‍♀️ The research I’ve done leads me to believe that the DEXA/DXA scans are the most accurate and the most affordable for said accuracy. Things like hydrostatic weighing and the one that uses air displacement are both fairly accurate however we don’t have those around here. I found a university a couple hours away that has the hydrostatic weighing. They said to call for pricing and limited availability. Anything that says call for pricing usually is out of my price range lol. Couple that with my fear of drowning and that’s probably not the best option for me. 🤪if you happen to find a better, more accurate, cost effective way to measure body fat plz let me know! I love researching these things and seeing what’s available in my area :).

Here’s what I found about In Body: Body composition measurements with InBody technology can, with accuracy and precision, look beyond weight and traditional body mass index to determine and help monitor distribution of body fat, body water, and lean body mass. Along with tetra-polar 8-point tactile electrodes, InBody technology uses a direct segmental multi-frequency bioelectric impedance method that is not dependent on empirical estimations and can provide accurate segmental lean analysis.

I just read that InBody is 98% accurate vs. Dexa. My InBody scans are included with my $19 gym membership, so I’m guessing they are pretty cheap to get? 🤷🏻‍♂️

@love2, my scan was $100 for the DEXA. However if I want to do another in 6 months then the next is half off. My gym is the Ymca so nothing fancy. One garage gym here in town has a 3D scanner thing but you have to call to book an appointment. They didn’t answer :/. Someone told me they heard it was $50 and non members could come every few months. Since I’m not losing weight I don’t need to see how my body changes. I honestly don’t think I’ll see that much difference in 6 months on a picture. I’ll see it more in how much I can lift, how I feel and how my clothes fit. Bet it’s nice having a gym with a body comp machine! My scale has 8 BIA things, 2 for each foot and each hand. I read up on it today and Inbody is more accurate than my scale. If our town gets one I’ll be sure to check it out! Thanks for the info!
