Weight day yesterday. Oddly enough I’m not sore. A bit stiff in the shoulders, lower back achy from the bed (works itself out by lunch usually), but not the normal ‘touch me and I’ll hurt you... if I can lift my arm long enough to hit you’ didn’t show up today. Perhaps it’s waiting until tomorrow lol. I hold my stress and tension in my neck and shoulders. When rotating my neck I do feel tightness there and it shoots a pain/pulling sensation down my spine that reaches the bottom of my shoulder blades. Maybe I loosened stuff up so my daily headache will go away.

If you are reading this Chris, you should check out the pic I’ll post later. There is such a thing as fast muscle. Just tiny amounts of it lol.

So yesterday was gym day. 220 on leg press and it seemed harder this time. Just to get the thing moving. I could stop between and was fine but getting it to budge that first time hurt. Pretty sure they need to grease the machine or something because I went up on leg weights. Started at 30, moved to 50 then 70 and I’m throwing in some 75&80# for legs and hips. It’s a killer but last summer I believe I stopped at 70# being hard and 50 easy. Never can remember the names of the machines but the hip one that you close your legs is easy on 75 and the one you open the legs is hard on 75. Working on building the muscles equally despite what I see at the gym and hubby says. Hope that’s right. Back to 30 on arms for tricep and bicep which is probably why my neck, collar bones and upper shoulders aren’t killing me today. I think I moved too quickly there as upper body is weaker than lower... like most women I suspect.

On another note my freaking teeth and jaw hurt. I like jaw busters but don’t chew them until they are small and I get to the hard powdery stuff in the middle. I assume I bit down wrong or something but it started hurting when I brushed my teeth yesterday afternoon. Eating my be fun today lol. Eating peanuts in my fav snack brought tears to my eyes last night. It’s tacos for dinner and I’ll have to find something soft for lunch I think. Maybe some tuna with relish and crackers. Surely that wouldn’t hurt. Dentist next week to remove temp crown and put on a permanent one. The tooth that hurts the most has a gray filling from childhood and the dentist said those fillings start cracking teeth and he’s surprised that I still have so many of them. Yes they bother me, yes it’s hard to chew meat and hard things but I can’t rip apart meat with crowns so... I’d rather not get all of my protein from a shake or bar no matter how good they are. I can’t imagine all crowns and a life without meat. Ugh now I’m craving jerky or my pork loin from last night. Which, when I cut into it, had juice running out and I had to dump it off of the platter so it didn’t spill over the edge. I’ve never had that happen before. It’s usually a bit dry from the crockpot. 🤷‍♀️Kids and hubby all commented about how moist it was even after all that juice ran out. I seared it rather than browned it before cooking so that’s probably it. Mistake on my part as I let the cast iron skillet get too hot. But hey, guess it worked better than expected lol. It’s Tuesday and we are implementing taco Tuesdays now. Easier to plan, brown the meat ahead or extra for another meal later in the week (no gym this evening) and I can work around calories easier plus the fam loves tacos. Ugh now I want a taco lol. Usually not hungry in the mornings.

Happy Tuesday all and sorry for the long post!

Thanks! I’ve been pushing around and found a sore muscle between my jaw and ear so that may be transferring pain. I’ll keep trying to loosen it and hopefully it helps!

Sure hope you don't have TMJ.

I don’t think so but I can ask my dr about it the next time I go. Thanks.

I only mentioned it because when I first got it I thought I had an ear infection. Don't have it anymore, thank goodness. Hope it's the jaw breakers and that's the end of that. 😊

Becca, I hope it’s the jaw breakers or just clenching my jaw. It doesn’t hurt to mention it though if it still hurts when I go in :).

TMJ is caused by clenching your jaw at night in your sleep. I had it really bad, that's why I hope you don't have it. ❤

Good job on the work out!!! I personally like to do smaller weights and more reps. My leg muscles are so bulky I’m hoping to “lean” out. I don’t know if that’s a thing or not but I guess it’s worth a shot lol. Try soaking in the bath to loosen up the muscles with some Epsom-salt. Just went to the dentist today. Had to have a filing redone. I pulled it out eating Cracker Jack 😰

If what I’ve read is correct then more reps with less weight gains strength whereas less reps with more weigh gains size. I’m going for size right now as it builds a bit of strength too. I don’t know if you could lose size while working out. Good question for Diablo, Chris or someone similar. Rosio might know more on female muscle info. If I’m honest, and I love being hoe st and telling everything, even things I shouldn’t lol, o have switched between the two. If I feel up to it then I do heavier weights, 10+8+however many I can manage and I sometimes do 30 then 35 then 40 or the reverse of that. Other days if I’m sore I’ll aim for 10 reps each set at 30. (Or 60 or 80 or whatever depending on the machine and muscles I’m using). Once I broke a tooth eating a hamburger. They didn’t believe me! It was homegrown beef with cheese, a bun and steak sauce, nothing else lol. Once pulled a baby tooth out when eating a now and later candy. When the kids have loose teeth I now hand them a starburst or gum lol. My middle gets sick and feels faint when she sees her own blood. I can be bleeding and she is fine.

@Becca, it’s a possibility then. The dentist constantly tells me I need to stop clenching my jaw and grinding my teeth. I only do it at night so I don’t know how to make a sleeping body stop that. A have a sports guard thing that I molded to my own teeth. #1 it’s bulky and hard to get to sleep with it because it’s uncomfortable. #2 I’ve woken up with it off and at the back of my throat. I have a real fear of choking and drowning so I didn’t get back to sleep that night and haven’t worn it since. It would be pretty hard to lodge the thing in my throat enough to choke me but fear isn’t rational or logical 🤷‍♀️

I've got nothing to help on how to stop. I used to wake up crying it hurt so bad. I think it's the whole not being able to fully relax thing. I understand it's hard, but there is information out there on things to do before bed so you can relax and sleep more soundly. Honestly, not until my kids grew up, was I able to relax a bit more. I still work on it. Hope you get a good and restful night's sleep tonight. 😊😴

Yeah. I’ve tried meditation and different exercises but they all fail. One medication I’m on for my depression is supposed to clear the mind. It helps me not obsess at bedtime and usually helps me relax a bit. Obviously not enough lol. Hot baths at night wake me up. Oils do nothing for me. Working out makes me tired and sleepy but you aren’t supposed to sleep after a workout and I do wake up sore if I do it. I think I’ll relax more after my oldest gets her stuff together. Lots of issues with her grades and attitude right now (since she was 8 so 5 years lol). The middle and youngest don’t stress me out near as much (10&4) but the middle is hiring the hormones of early puberty so yeah, there’s that coming up. I’ll sleep well tonight as it’s storming. As soon as the tornado watch is over in about 80 minutes I’ll be able to sleep. None of us wake up to the storm radio so I get to stay up al night on nights like this. Knew it was coming so took a nap today. Will have an hour or so tomorrow to take a nap too. Or meal plan lol.

Peeper, if it is TMJ, a good dentist can take a mold of your front teeth and make a night guard that realigns your jaw while you sleep, taking the tension off of the joint. A regular mouth guard will not keep your jaw in place while you sleep. Also, a custom-fitted night guard fits snuggly and will not come off during the night, so there is no danger of choking. I'm very surprised your dentist hasn't suggested one, since he is aware that you are clenching your jaw. The night guard will relive the pain and, more importantly, prevent further damage to the bone and ligaments of your jaw, as well as your teeth. I have worn one for years, it is not bulky, nor is it uncomfortable. It is small, just fits on the bottom front teeth.

Here is an article talking about high rep verse low rep weight training. It should help answer your questions about which is better. I personally use both methods as they work 2 different fibers in the muscle, one for muscle endurance and one for muscle strength. HIGH REPS VS LOW REPS IN 2019 : WHICH IS BETTER? - BUILTLEAN.COM Hope this article helps.

Physical therapists can also treat TMJ. It can be a bit is a specialty but if you find a PT who can treat it it will help a lot.

@shir, I’ll ask. Is it similar to a plastic retainer in thickness? I wore those for a couple years at night and had no problems. The one I have is very bulky. Tight fit but it still came off. Covers all of my top teeth. He’s the one who mentioned getting a guard to try but he said to look for a sports one.

I’m writing it down to look at later thanks Kenny!

Thanks raj. I’m not a big believer in PT. I went after a surgery and it didn’t do much good. Started my own stretches and things and got it to loosen up halfway. Still not all the way but I’m thinking the ligament or whatever it is in my shoulder must’ve gotten nicked and maybe shortened. Still don’t have full range of motion and never thought that would be a problem with a mastectomy. The PT was nice but she just told me to keep working at it and it would eventually loosen up. I don’t have time for so many appointments and I don’t think my insurance pays for it except a few times after surgeries with a referral.
