Day 2 of a planned 2 day OMAD 'One Meal A Day'

Blood sugar 90 mg/dL

👎🏾 Did I keep my net carbs below 10? No
👍🏾 Did I keep my protein below 90g? Yes!
👎🏾 Is my morning blood sugar in the 70s? No

The problem is the Zucchini!

🌟 Basically, a cup of Zucchini is only 20 calories! Great, right? But, it is-4-frickin-carbs! That is more than an entire scoop of my protein powder (that I love!). A serving of the low carb Quest Pizza is only 6 net carbs!

🌟 I have always cared about carbs rather than calories, but the Zucchini finally forced the issue. So, I spent 2 hours, and did a detailed analysis of my September 2018 numbers here: https://bit.ly/2IuswWw (FatSecret will not easily give you your food numbers next to your weight number, you have to do this manually!)

🌟 Anyway, the conclusion, for me (*IMPORTANT: Another person could eat the exact same thing and get a different result*), the carbs matter not the calories.

However, we got a fancy Zucchini spiralizer weeks ago and hadn’t used it yet. So I knew that I was still gonna eat the Zucchini and take the carb hit.

📅 Knowing this, I reworked my food for the day in the Fat Secret calendar and brought my carbs down on all the other food. Had I not done the detailed analysis, I would have told myself “Oh the Zucchini is not bad, it is only 20 calories!”.

Screw that, Zucchini is the devil 😈

But oh man spiralized Zucchini sautéd in butter is the greatest tasting thing in the world!

😎 Of course I went on a 'carb binge' and had to have a "Quest Oatmeal Raisin Protein Cookie", and then a "Just the Cheese Grilled Cheese Crunchy Baked Cheese" before bed. Yes, I lost a pound, but I had weighed myself mid-day, after my morning run, and I was actually down 3lbs for the day at that point.

🏋🏾 Oh well, off to the gym today...

Have a great day everyone!

the sausage got you too, these things are sneaky. Nothing stalls a plan worst then hidden carbs. They trigger those cravings. Marx just found his new product had hidden carbs too which explained his previous unexplained cravings hitting. You did get a good loss regardless of you hitting the munchies, which is great on your omad weekend. Think Steak! Nice big pat of butter melting on top of it! I hope you have a great day at the gym and enjoy your weekend!

@baskington - Yeah the taste of the sausage was great, but I was hungrier after I ate it than before! Next week I should be done with this cut (4 more pounds) and can do a steak OMAD :) :)

yes the cut, but if you had had steak instead of carbs you would most likely have kept your cut drop. Steak 236 gr approximately 44 protein.. zero carbs. Butter .5?? Sausage quite a hit for less quality value. But even the steak would not save things if you go over your 10 total carbs, that is the key. for me I stay under 5. The zoodles looked great I never got to use my spiralizer yet. Still in the box. I just don't think it is worth sabotaging things to pull it out. Don't mind me I am a grump and sound like a nag today, my husband decided at the last minute he wanted steak last night so I had to share my steak and he got the lean part and I got all the fat very little meat and had to add eggs to attempt to get enough protein. 1 pound gain because I was too low on protein and high on fat. my numbers reflect this today.

Chris I can't have veggies, my messed up allergies. It is a waste since I got the allergy testing done after I already had it. Too bad my husband is not more open to new foods, I don't mind making him interesting new stuff.

Try going to the gym first & than the Carbs.

@Baskington - You are a good wife to share your steak :) :)

@Srossca - I hit the gym, did all my sets with ease. Perhaps Zucchini is the new 'carb up' food? :)

HA! HA! still you did good that is all that matters

That is so funny - everybody reacts so differently! I can eat zucchini until the cows come home and never gain weight - that is if I leave off the tons of butter I would put on it! So are you retiring the spiralizer?

Damn! I’ve heard of people losing it with zucchini. It actually has a high sugar content for the low amount of carbs in it. I seem to do okay with them. I have to limit my portion (as with all veggies) though because of the carbs 😪

@nikeit - Since I DID lose a pound anyway I will see what happens next time.

@CrashtestDawnie - Yeah 'high sugar content' is what must have set me off. I'm gonna give it another try and see if it sets me on a 'carb binge' again.
