Day 3 of a planned 5 day fast

The good news is that I am still losing weight!

The key lately has been <10 carbs a day when 'liquid fasting' (I have been able to 'only drink water' one day in my life). If I fast but take in more than 30 carbs (for example a Coca-Cola is 40 carbs!) I can 'liquid fast' for days without losing weight.

The bad news is that I now have to seriously think about what to do when I hit my goal weight.

We bought a fancy new scale that measures body fat, and even though I take measurements at different times during the day, it wont go above 10%. While I know there are serious limitations to a scale with this technology, I do believe that it IS possible that my body fat 'could' actually be below 20% at this point.

I look in the mirror and I look skinny. Not a day goes by where multiple people don't ask me, not the usual 'wow you look great!' but, 'how much weight do you plan to lose?'.

(sigh)

When I look in the mirror, the last weight I can see on my body is my belly. There IS fat there. I can put my hands under my belly and lift up and hold the fat. This is why I plan to go down to my BMI Weight (I calculate it by typing in "BMI calculator" in Google and pressing enter to see the calculator app).

However, if I reach that goal weight, what then? Fasting 5 days a week would no longer be safe or practical. My 'plan' is to eat OMAD. this seems to work for @Phil.

I also have been hitting the weights a LOT harder (going from 1 to 3 sets a session). I am also now doing 50 crunches a day.

Oh well, these are obviously great 'problems' to have, so let me get off my pity party...

Have a great day everyone!

Change is hard, even good change. You will figure it out!

You're still doing great. Yes, you have to figure out the details of what's next, but like you said it's a nice problem to have to solve. I am sure you will continue reaching your goals and achieving success. I have read on here, that with time and working out your skin tightens up and that for some reason the belly is the last to go. There are so many fine examples and role models on FS to help figure out the next steps. You are now part of that group, IMO. Have a great day.🌞

@abbadabba - Thanks! Yes, change is hard and I am mentally resisting the additional hard work I clearly need to do :) But, I don't want to gain the weight back!

@Becc@ - Thank you for the support! Yes, I am going to do my best to follow their examples and not 'overthink' it.

change is good and actually the exercise will do more for your belly than just fasting. When you get proper macro's into your body and exercise regularly that will melt over time. But I do understand your concern. the fasting has been helping you stop the bingeing every day. your new plan may be the best option for you.

WOW!! Impressive. That’s what I need to do but 😲

@baskington - The normal advice 'continue to do what got you here' can't be followed 100% when 'not eating' was the thing that 'got you here' :) My HOPE is that 'fasting most of the time' will the solution. It works for @Phil. The ONLY problem is that 'in the past' I have not been successful (I can still take in 150 carbs in a single OMAD). But, I am going to try again...

oh know I was agreeing with your long range option, just saying that maybe you are ready for it now. sorry I was not clear. brain fog you know! plus it does not help I can't see well from the eye doctor. LOL! I think Phils plan is perfect for you. but yes you could do in the carbs, but you are learning a new way of eating. Your wife can also help you with that. It is all about choices. You are developing strong willpower and that will get you going right in the end.

you just need to mentally prepare yourself for this new level.

When I hit my goal weight I was mesmerized !!! Then I wanted to keep loosing, went down another 12 #s, But people stared talking thinking I was sick, It really took a adjustment period for me, not to keep loosing and stay under goal..Now I seem OK with it..Somewhat !!!

Does your body shut down after 3 or 4 days, ie, storing the fat to survive?

Life is continual planning. You had to plan how to lose weight and stay track, now you are going to have to plan how to be in maintenance. You know you can do it. You have the skills and knowledge to complete the task at hand. So go do it.

@srossca - Ironically I feel my best on day 3+ of the fast. When my body only has the 'stored fat' to live off of. I then have a 'constant stream' of energy rather than the 'up and down' energy from eating food. I have gone 11 days and felt fine. My only problem now is I am running out of 'stored fat' to burn.

Just try to make sure that you don't end up with some kind of body image problem - where you think you need to lose because you don't see yourself as you really are now...it is smart to start thinking about maintenance now...you have done an amazing job so far!

If you're worried about not being able to stop losing weight, forget about it, your body will find equilibrium, you just have to keep an eye on your markers; ie., the scale, how your clothes fit, etc. Instead of one meal a day and fasting, eat two meals a day and cut your fasts in half. It's a dance, you'll figure it out.

Wow! Great results! I also got anew scale.. thus one tells me I am 41.7% body fat ( was 30.4).. so I have quite a bit of hard work to do.. and results like yours really inspire me 😁👍 Thanks my friend 😁😁
