Turning 50 feels surreal. A lot of cognitive dissonance going on for me right now. Weighed today then went out to eat. The scale said i had lost 3.6 pounds but with my bed broken i don't have my feet up as much so i have more swelling than in recent weeks. Not sure what I'm going to do about that. This last week I've really been able to tell I've lost weight, especially in my stomach and arms.

I finished eating about an hour ago and I'm already really hungry which never normally happens during my feeding window. It wasn't until i input my food so far for the day that i realized i had not considered my fat intake when deciding what to get. I should have asked for butter for the vegetables. I ate a third of a piece of cheesecake that is supposed to be sugar free and I actually tried some salad stuff. Something must have really spiked my insulin. I should have saved the salad until after i had eaten my protein. I learned cucumbers taste like the rind of a watermelon, black olives are too salty when not cooked in something, grape tomatoes still taste like raw tomato, and baby spinach with boiled egg and honey mustard dressing is delicious.
So next time, ask for butter, save the salad for last, and pass on the sugar free dessert and make something dessert like myself when i get home if I want something. Also, I think i should invest in a glucometer. Mine is packed away somewhere, likely to never be seen again.

I am so thankful for my way of eating. I sure don't have this intense painful hunger when i eat my usual way and i sure don't enjoy having it. I don't feel anywhere near this way when i fast for 20 hours on lchf. Yet one hour after i eat differently(not off plan eating but not matching my macros) I get hungry again, intensely so, like i might get sick if i don't eat again soon. To think this was how i felt much of my life. Kinda sad about that but at least i don't have to stay that way.

First of all, Happy Birthday, girl! Due to a lot of changing life circumstances, i have been a lot happier and healthier since i turned 50. It was a real mind bender of a number though, lol! I love how you are paying close attention to yourself, and what will and will not work for you! Congrats on the nice drop too!

Happy Birthday :) I turn 50 in 3 months. I LOVE my glucometer ($35 on Amazon with same day delivery). The scale will lie to me or tell me half truths, but the glucometer will give it to me strait :)

Happy birthday!! I'll be 50 in 4 months. Not sure how I feel about that! It's great that you've found a woe that works for you.

Happy birthday! I remember the feeling when I turned 50 -- it was like going off the map! Back then (25 years ago) it seemed like every form I filled out with age, ended in the square for 50, nothing after it. It made me feel as if people thought life ended at 50! I was 55 when I changed my career plans and realized I had time to start a totally new career if I wanted! I quit my school job and within 9 months was a public library director, ready to be my own boss -- sort of, except for the city manager and city council. Best decision I ever made! Just think, at 50 you have 20-30 years ahead, most child rearing duties over, free at last! That doesn't mean I didn't love raising my kids. But granny time is special, and so is your elder citizen time! Enjoy!

I think cucumbers taste better than a watermelon rind. Just my opinion.

With our chosen WOE.... it's for us to determine what makes us happy, satisfies our hunger and cravings and helps us lose. I read where people lost 100lb. in a year. It took me 2 years to lose 80. We're all different. I gained back some of it and now working to get it off and it's going slow. But I know this will be for life. Literally. Proud of you that you found what works for you and are in gear to make it work. Happy Birthday.

I’m 70– 50 was a long time ago. I totally feel no different than I did when I was 30. I am happy, busy, healthy, have great friends, travel some and spend time at my ranch up in Sequoia National Forest. I don’t know how I ever found time to work.

Happy birthday, CJ! The advice I gave Jennifer2727 for finding foods you may like better than watermelon rind (LOL -- cukes, only with salad dressing!) and tomatoes: Join DietDoctor.com, just for the first free month, mark your calendar to cancel 29 days later, and access all you can during that period before you cancel. You'll find great lists of "Foods" under "Low carb" and "Keto (stricter low carb)" on the home page. _________ As for turning 50, my closest friends and I turn be 65 in November. That's kinda weird, to think that we're now [ahem] "contemporaries" of our own grandmothers ... all of who have been dead for what seems like centuries! My motto about age: "It's not 'deterioration'; it's just 'change'!"

@MillaLite You aren't off the hook in the tomato tasting department. There are still the cherry tomatoes to try. And thank you so much for the glucometer suggestion. It had not even occurred to me to ask my doctor and since I'm going there anyway tomorrow, i will hopefully remember to do so.
