shirfleur 1's Journal, 19 December 2021

Sorry I haven't been present much lately, I've just been a bit stressed. And then I got a call last night from my older son, Todd who lives in Fairbanks. He and his wife were out in the White Mountain National Recreation Area, snowmobiling with a group to which they belong. It was snowing and windy, and he was leading the group down a trail when he went down into an unmarked sinkhole, which was about 7-8 feet deep. His wife was thrown off to the side, into the snow, and was uninjured. He, however, hit the bottom head-on, going about 18 MPH. Fortunately, they wear heavy clothing and fully-enclosed helmets, so they were mostly okay, except he broke his leg. They also carry emergency GPS satellite communicators. So the group hauled them out of the hole, a man appears out of nowhere with a tent that had a heater ( I told Todd that it was an angel), they sent out an emergency call, the army sent a Blackhawk Helicopter, which could not land, so they cabled him up, took him to the hospital, and he is doing fine. So, this very long story which has nothing to do with FS, is just to tell you that I'm now even more stressed. I have been on a see-food diet lately (if you see food, you eat it), but I have managed to do a little better today.

Glad they were able to get help that quickly - angels indeed! Hope they will both be fine and that you will be able to relax somewhat and de-stress soon. Hopefully when you can speak to your son and he can reassure you that he's doing ok - hope that will be soon if not already. 🙏❤️ Take care!

First, prayers for Todd and prayers for his momma! ❤️🙏🏼❤️🙏🏼 second, sending you a big internet hug. So glad he was quickly rescued & that he received proper medical care. The tent angel was a blessing! I understand about eating everything in sight when stressed. Our brains and nervous systems want to be soothed. Just do the best you can right now and know if you slip up, a course correction is coming & you will find the path again. PS you raised a couple of bad ass adventurers that jet ski & water ski & do all kinds of things! You don't break a leg by napping on the couch.

Oh goodness. Praying for Todd, for you. I grew up snowmobiling my whole life in Newfoundland and understand these dangers too well. Thank God for help and angels!! Shirley, you and your family are full of adventures, from the jet ski to the snowmobile. I just love you and your family!! ❤️🙏

Thank you all for your kind words and prayers. I talked to Todd again today and he is doing well. I also talked to my younger son, Scott, of jet ski fame; he and his son, Paul, went out on the jet ski over the weekend and did not even get a foot wet. 😁
