Its been a great result this last week, but the next 2 weeks will be the test, My job takes me away interstate 2 weeks every month, I will get plenty of exercise moving furniture on and off the truck every second day, every other day just drive from one state to the next which is the problem...and eating good food on the road is hard, its not like I get an hour to sit down in a restaurant or cafe.

Hi Keith, just to put it into perspective I will explain a days work for me, the driver and Company owner, I mean this in a nice polite manner. Awake at 4am and answering emails for 1 hour, breakfast and shower to 530am. Get the wheels turning and easy to have some fruit mid morning, but lunch time soon approaches, we stop for fuel and have got maccas or hungrys or chips and meat pies at the service centre (sometimes something healthy at these place but mostly not). Have protein snack in the arvo then into a motel at 6 to 7 pm now its time to organse tomorrows customers and answer emails before it get too late, this is a 2 hour minimum job, now its between 8 and 9 pm and havnt had dinner yet, so a call for delivery take away as every thing is closed in the small country towns or im too knackered to go anywhere. 10 pm im going to bed and up again at 4am to do it all again. this continues for 14 days until I get home and back to a normal lifestyle. The government has made it safer on the roads by monitoring heavy vehicles and their work and sleep patterns, but on the other hand they have also made so that for me the owner/driver every minute matters. At the end of the day there are not any excuses but its a tough gig, when the clock is against you.

I have done my share of interstate driving both for work and recreational. It's not easy or fun, but without being rude they are excuses mate. Does your rig have a fridge? I assume it has a bed which means if it don't you have room for eskys. I know you can't take fruit and veg but their is a tonne of healthy food options. Jake(a mate of mine) is still driving interstate 2 times a week and he is fitter then me. It's all about prep and avoiding easy temptation like servo pies and cokes. Where their is a will their is a way mate, not for 1 second do I believe you have no healthy options on the road. You got this mate👌

Prepare meals that you can take with you, when everyone else is chowing Macca's have chicken breast and run around ya truck. It can be hard to keep motivation in such a sedentary job I know but no one is making you eat Macca's mate that is your decision. Foods you could take with you could be Chicken Smoked fish Tins of tuna Nuts and seeds If no fruit fly bins options triple Protein and carb bars Wraps I think with some prep you could vary your diet dramatically and you would soon get over the 20 mins it takes to get it sorted before you mount up and hit the Horizon

Hi Keith, with all due respect, im not saying that healthy options are not out there, but on a lot of occasions they are not on my path unfortunately. Your mate is doing 2 times a week and doesn't do the emails and business management, whereas im doing 14 days straight with 1 x 24 hour break in between & managing the business, at the end of the day i will do the best that I can given the circumstances that I have to work with, no excuses but im aiming for the 2nd tier while away working, which is maintenance.

Keith you make some good points, and I will take it all onboard and see how I go, hopefully you may be my savior. I'm always up for constructive criticism :)

My mate does Adelaide to perth 32 hours each way, 2 drivers truck don't stop. I'll ask him for healthy trucking meals. He is a machine mate, fitter and stronger then anyone I know. Wouldn't surprise me if he's flipping the spare tyres while others are chowing Macca's lol. He will be a great source of info👍

I spoke with my mate and explained the situation, he said what he does is 1) buys decent microwavable meals(recommended core power foods) and keeps them in his Waeco. Most servos will have a microwave you can use. 2) makes soups/stews up and keeps them warm in a thermos then you can eat at your leisure (he always has a 2nd driver so this might not be as practical for you?) 3)like you are doing keeps a good supply of protein bars. He has said over the years he has cut/maintained/bulked all while spending 80+ hours a week in his truck. He wishes you the best of luck with everything

He said that jacking up the trailors is a great upper body workout and you should have all the gear needed on board hahahahaha He also has handles above his bed where he can do rows, stores battle ropes on the roof of his trailers, He says just get creative if it's heavy(everything needed for interstate trucking is heavy hahahaha) you can get fit pushing/pulling/lifting/throwing it around. Look at it differently, your not driving a truck, your living in your gym hahahahaha

I didn't know that 10 years ago he was a IFBB finalist whilst driving at the same time. That's impressive, a finalist of international Federation of body building and he has never in his life had a gym membership

Thanks Keith....your mate sounds like a rare breed hahaha, well tomorrow i will do my shopping for the truck, coz im in the road 5am Sunday. Hopefully I can do ok. What i do is slightly different to haulage, ebay, gumtree and collectors pickup and deliver door to door mainly single items of furniture over 10,000kms run. This will be my test 👍

He is a genuine kinda guy👍 Know him as he drives between the branches of a company i used to work for. The soup in a thermos is something I never would have thought of
