Egg shells are a good source of calcium and some other trace minerals. If you have a calcium deficiency or osteoporosis, this is a good supplement.

All I know is when fed to chickens, egg shells or egg shell powder will make the shells they lay thicker. After reading the posts I’ll look into it for my osteopenia.

I'm not sure if your body will absorb calcium from the shells, I think it's mostly calcium carbonate. I usually look for mineral citrates as they seem to be better absorbed.

I've never heard of this before. I've learned some things from the comments you received. Thanks to everyone.

gz9gig, due to your comment I recently looked up the absorability of eggshells in our diets and cannot find anything that states otherwise, unless the shell is left in course bits. I grind mine to a fine powder. Nevertheless, if you can point me to a source that states otherwise I would love to read it.

I wish I had a link to a study of menopausal women I read, it did a study of absorbtion of calcium with two different types and the only one shown to make a real difference was calcium Citrate malate. and I can personally attest to the difference it made when I started taking it verus all the other calcium products I have used in the past. my actual leg cramps at night went away. we as long as I also stay hydrated. this has been a long term problem for me.

Shouldn't hurt you, might help?? I try to add a cal-mag vitamin when I'm trying to rebuild muscle...supposed to help tissue rebuild.

Thanks baskington. That's kind of what I thought, but it seems that everything that is popping up is saying in a powder form it will absorb, but in fine to course grandulars it won't. I just need to read the data for myself. I really don't know.

Steven, I was thinking along your lines, but it still would be nice to have a more definitive knowledge on the topic.
