I feel like I have dodged a bullet and been given a second chance! I had tests at the hospital on Tuesday and got most of the results today. I have a mild heart problem and a moderate lung problem, both of which are reversible by keeping my blood pressure down and quitting smoking. I have always been rather haphazard at taking my blood pressure medicine but no more, and today is Day 3 of no smoking. I am hoping with continued weight loss and maybe adding some moderate exercise, I can eventually drop the HBP medicine. Best of all, my chest X-ray was clear. After being a pack a day smoker for 43 years, I was terrified they were going to find cancer.

Congratulations! This should be good motivation to get rid of unhealthy habits and adopt some new healthier ones. I felt the same way after a scan showed what appeared to be a problem with my kidney, then my liver, and turned out to be NAFLD (non-alcoholic fatty liver disease). No scarring yet on my liver so I have a chance to reverse that disease with a low-fat diet and some exercise. Working on the first part of that, and I will eventually add in the second part. It's like getting a reprieve.
