I took 4,000 mg Vit C in am and 3,000 more after dinner and still haven't had a BM in 2 days. This is on top of taking 3,000 per day for last week.

How much more vit C can I take to unclog the pipes?

You may want to try a different brand. I used to take spring valley and it gave me horrible stomach aches and then would have a BM (did the job), I switched to nature made because I got my vitamins but didn't cause the BM. Thinking about it Spring Valley may be more potent since it makes you go but I just take the vit c for the vitamins and not the movement needs. I would also suggest moving on to dieters Green tea that usually works pretty well, just beware of whether you want the caffiene or not they come in both ways.

Vitamin C doesn't have the reputation of being a really good laxative. It's not working for you, so try something else.

Why don't you try upping your green leafy veggies. You are not getting enough fiber....combine that with your vitC and alot of water and things should get moving.

I can't eat enough of the leafy greens, my body loves fiber. Use to be the only thing that would work was a couple of beers which of coarse can't happen now. I found the muffin in a minute recipe and have been making 1 per day, haven't had a problem since plus no stomach ache or anything. It's almost pure fiber, just remember to drink at least 1 extra glass of water, more is better or it'll work the opposite way and act as a plug.

Drink a bottle of magnesium citrate. Its a liquid laxative. Use metamucil daily.

A bottle? At what point does this kind of overdosing become dangerous?

I had to loosen myself up, a number of years ago...I'd had surgery and the danged pain meds, which did nothing for pain, plugged me up badly.

I found the recommendation for Vit C is this:
1) Take 5000mg all at once. Drink at least 16 oz water wtih it.
2) Every 20 minutes after that, take another 1,000mg and 8 oz water.

For me, I finally unplugged at 11grams of Vit C. I asked my doc and she said this is not damaging, as long as it's for a one-time event. She thinks it's far safer than metamucil or other mechanical means.

Best sources of fiber are whole grains - not ground into flour. I eat steel-cut oats every morning. Beans are wonderful too, and are a great source of protein. By relying on beans as a major protein source, I automatically get at least 50 grams of fiber daily.

Don't forget water, too...fiber doesn't do any good if there's not enough water to let it flow through the system.

I've been there. No amount of fiber was helping. In fact, if your system isn't used to processing a ton of plant fiber, eating piles of beans and leafy greens will do nothing but stop you up further. (This was actually the source of my issues--a sudden switch to a mostly veg based diet.) What really helped me was adding some Udo's Enzymes. If you aren't eating very healthfully, your body is probably short on these enzymes, hence you cannot digest the plant fiber properly.

After taking it for a bit my body adjusted fine. But I did have to rely on an OTC remedy for immediate relief. Hope you are sorted out now! Wink

Have you tried miralax? It's gentler on the stomach than mag citrate, I usually mix a cap full with some powerade and drink that every day. It doesn't happen right away but you should produce a BM within a day. If you're looking for results within a few hours mag citrate should work or try taking bisocodyl over the counter, if not I'd suggest seeing your doctor especially if you're having any pain and no bowel movements; last thing you want is a bowel obstruction...

"smooth move" peppermint tea works. One cup before bed and in the morning you should be ready
