Most nutritionists agree that fasting is very bad for you. If you want to go on a detox, try a natural, raw foods detox - plus lots of water to help flush out toxins. Eating all raw fruits and veggies while doing this will sustain you and help boost your metabolism. Fasting slows your metabolism and doesn't do any good. You may lose a few pounds, but it would be temporary water weight loss, and not worth it.

Just my 2 cents!

I do not understand how starving your body could possibly be good for you. I would much rather eat and give my body what it needs.

I agree. Starvation is not the way to kick off a healthy lifestyle.

Bad idea.

Your body will be starved and will just hang onto every calorie you consume once your fast is over, possibly making you gain more weight.

You gain it back very fast. Because of a medical issue I had years ago I was unable to eat and was eating only by IV and lost 56 pounds in 9mo But now I am the biggest I have ever been because it really made my body panic and store any and all foods I ate the first few years after it.

Why do a fast?? your body has its own filtration system that should be working properly. I have done Dr. supervised fasts for medical reasons and I lost weight, but the second I could start eating normal food I gained the weight back. I wouldn't recommend it.

You say you want a cheeseburger but all I hear is "I need love" - a comic strip on the fridge at work.

You have failed only when you quit trying. Until then, you're still in the act of progression. So, never quit trying and you'll never be a failure.

Sounds like a really bad idea. I can think of no worse way to start off a "healthy" lifestyle than to starve your body. I see the problem as two fold...You are most likely going to hate the experience and associate it negatively with weight loss, and you are depriving yourself of nutrients. This will screw your metabolism and I think will do more harm than good. Look at all of the comments above and please reconsider. Try healthier alternatives to what yoiu are easting. Lose weight slowly and steadily to prvent gaining it back.

I am amazed by the number of journal entries I have already run across tonight where folks think that starvation using various methods is a good approach to a healthy new you.
PLEASE don't do this for all the reasons everyone above have already mentioned. There is no magic bullet. Slow and steady is a much better way to achieve overall improved health.

Jennifer..please see a nutritionist before doing something like this.
I worry about you!! You admit in your bio. that you have done some unhealthy things in the past to lose weight!! This is another one of those things!!
I also notice that your groups are eating disorder groups..Please see your doctor!!

I know I know it is not the best way to do this but I feel I need to. I plan on doing it for only 3 days and then after that I will only eat raw foods (which I have been doing forever but then fell into the habit of eating bad food because my parents are assholes and accused me of being anorexic because I ate healthy....they literally get take out every night and my dad is overweight and my mom is only thin because she has colitis). I am getting back to the way I was happy eating and I enjoyed healthy food and still do...I just hate being pressured to eat stuff that I don't want to just so they stop calling me anorexic...which they still will anyway...or worse. This week because they forced me to eat bread then yelled at me for it later I was then labeled "bulimic" because I got the stomach flu that EVERYONE got...including my mother that I TOOK CARE OF WHILE SHE WAS THROWING HER BRAINS UP! But no, it is impossible for me to be sick, right?! I HATE IT HERE AND I WILL NEVER BE HAPPY WITH BEING ME UNTIL I DON'T LIVE WITH THEM ANYMORE.

If all you're going to do is drink water for 3 days your parents will throw an even bigger fit. And there is a difference between eating healthy and just drinking water. And from your previous posts that you deleted to hide from parents no offence but I'm gonna have to agree with your parents about you having an ed. From what you stated before you and your sister hid diet pills in your room. And now you want to just drink water. Sounds like signs to me.

I don't know how old you are but I am going to assume you are old enough to make your own choice. Saying they force you to eat something is a little extreme, they do not hold a gun to your head and say eat this or I will shoot there for you could choose to eat something entirely different.

Also if you are so unhappy where you are why do you not move out? I know easier said than done but honestly, being destructive to your health is doing nothing to anyone but yourself. I really think you need to seek professional help because the things you are saying just sounds like you have a major ED, drinking water for 3 days is not going to "cleanse" your body... that is why we were built with a filtration system in our bodies... all you are going to end up doing is making yourself sick.

He may not hold a gun to my head but he does say, "if you don't eat (enter food here) I will not pay for college anymore...threatening enough for me. You don't understand how it is and what I am feeling so don't judge me please. I don't have a family that is anywhere near normal or typical...it is the strangest situation that I am currently aware of.

And for anyone asking, I am 20. 2 more years then I am out. Oh, and he also says that if I move out now he won't pay for college...I can't afford that! And I worked my ass off to get me where I am and in a great nursing program so I am not about to fuck it up now! Only two more years then I will be free to be me..

I think I remember you from a previous post. I know how horrible the situation at your home is...it's pretty f*cked up tbh. But, just drinking water won't help. Just keep on with the healthy eating...fruits, veggies, whole grain breads.

Eat as healthy as your parents will allow while around them, then go back to the raw, pure foods you say that you normally like to eat whenever you can. You may just have to work around these circumstances, but just make sure you get properly fueled.

I know I'm not helping to much. It hurts knowing that I can only sit here posting, and not be able to reach through and help you out. I can say that if I was in your situation and my college tuition was threatened I would be likely to do the same thing....it's just that important. But, then again, so is your health. Don't throw that away either just for the thought of an easy couple pound loss. When you eat again it makes it so hard to lose.

I pretty much starved myself, getting lower and lower, and now I'm back to near normal food intake. I haven't lost in nearly a month and I feel horrible. But I did it to myself, I suppose...

I just want to point out that you already have health issues ( the 1st post I saw from you was regarding this) if you decide to fast on only water for 3 days you will probably either add to it or increase the problem you already have. Did you even go to free clinic as you said school will kick you out if you have a medical problem (Which I think is bs on schools part if that's true) or are you still putting it off? Just remember this is your health we are talking about. If you do things like that who's to say you'll be around in 2 years to enjoy the hard work. Sad

I am not judging you I am simply stating facts.. you are 20, if you do not want to eat crap.. than don't a threat is a threat. Personally I am 28, am helping raise my 6 year old niece because her mother is out of the picture, work part time and am in school full time, so I do get the whole paying for college thing. There are MANY people out there who put themselves through college.

I remember reading posts about you missing periods and such.. this is because you are not eating, or doing stupid things (like a water fast) that are ruining your health. You are 20, you are young and you are wasting your life by doing silly things, your parents may be paying for your college but you are capable of finding a job, and buying your own food.

The situation may be messed up, and trust me I come from one of the most messed up families you could ever meet, but you are playing the "my life sucks give me pity" card a little too hard. I apologize if this is harsh but GET HELP, I really would hate to see you hurt yourself because of somethign likes this.
