Hi I just saw this site on an Atkins post and thought I would try it. I neded a good way to log my food. I have been "doing" Atkins for about 4 days and haven't lost any weight. I do however feel light headed and hungry. I'm not eating any carbs that I shouldn't and have tried to get in 12-15 veggie carbs a day. I feel discouraged and think I must not be doing something right but I don't know what.

I'm consuming about 16 nc daily and I haven't counted calories or sodium because Atkins doesn't require it. Now that I am on this site though I will have those values daily.

Each meal needs protein 4-6 oz of chicken, eggs(they have a few carbs), fish or beef unless you are a vegetarian. You really have to adjust to cooking something for almost all meals. Peppers have a ton of vegetable carbs has well as tomatoes, if you have trouble getting them in. try to eat two snacks or have 1 atkins shake and another snack a day. I was not eating enough and was not losing weight when i first started. I try to eat more and am doing better. Good Luck

I have been eating 2 eggs and 3 pieces of bacon for breakfast an Atkins shake for snack then a large salad with tuna salad for lunch maybe a cup of jicama for afternoon snack then a piece of meat and veggie for dinner. I have wondered if I'm not getting enough veggie carbs or enough fat.

click on the green "MyFatSecret" tab on top left of page. then scroll about 1/2 way down looking on the right side for the person's name...it should say you have a buddy request...accept or reject. click accept.

if it is not there, or you want to ask someone to buddy - we all do it- click on the person's picture...go to their profile page. Under their picture there, it will say Add as a buddy...or something like that...along w/ their weight history, journal, diet info etc...

hope this helps

Sounds like your sodium intake is high. Check it out, cause you could be retaining water.

Are you drinking enough water?

welcome trestes, since you've only been doing it for 4 days it could be your body detoxing. some people have that as they go through "carb withdrawal" it WILL get better, but might last a week or 2. and though you don't have to count calories you still need to eat a reasonable amount, at least 1200, but try to get closer to 15-1600. drink lots of water and I've read on here that some people have trouble loosing when they use the atkins snacks during induction. i know the products say it's ok, but you might do better skipping those for a few weeks.

Thank you all for the advice. I actually have been adding salt when I cook my eggs and of course the bacon is probably loaded with sodium. Today is my first day on fs and it has really been eye opening seeing the nutrition break down of the food I'm consuming.

Ugh, Atkins shakes are the worst. If you really aren't losing weight with 20g net carbs, then that's your problem. Instead, make your own shakes so that you know they don't contain sugar alcohols or other things that the "Atkins Foundation" swears doesn't count but were never recommended by Dr. Atkins himself.

Go to GNC or the equivalent and get some low-sugar protein powder. Mix in water, heavy cream, eggs, etc. to get the consistency you want.

The Atkins diet scares me, that's a lot of fat. I don't know, doesn't seem right to eat bacon to loose weight... yikes! I drink Isagenix shakes and they're really good and easy to make.

Even though I am not an Aktins fan, I consider there is much more solid science to low-carb diets than some pyramid marketing scheme of shakes that claim to "cleanse".

Well, mdep, one of the things that intrigues me is that when Americans were able to get refined sugars and flours the obesity rate went up. Then we added fast food at every corner and now it is an epidemic. They can't tell me these carbs weren't responsible for the rapid decline of American's health. When I look at how my Grandparents ate and what they had access to, it proves to me that carbs could be the culprit here. All of their food was fresh from the farm, not processed, home grown, no steroids. What does everyone else think?

@Sherillynn, maybe I was not clear in my previous post.

Personally I believe not all carbs are equal. Carbs from whole grains and veggies are far better than carbs from Oreo cookies. I like to blame it more on processed food than just carbs alone.

I don't know what your grandparents ate, but back in 1900s, the average per capital consumption of bread in France was about 900g a day - that's almost 2 pounds! In 1998 is was down to 160g - about 5 oz. Yet the obesity rate went up over the years.

From what I read, it is not just carbs, but Americans in general are eating more of everything these days and moving a lot less.

I am not against low-carb diets in principal. It is simply not practical for me as I refuse to eat mass-produced animal products (that include eggs and dairy) and free-range organic meats from local ranches are quite expensive so I consider them as an occasional treat.

I agree with you that home/locally grown/raised food is best and actually I try to eat like that as much as possible. I count myself extremely fortunately that I get my veggies from a CSA six months out of the year, and my eggs and dairy from another local farm where I actually own a share of a dairy cow. She has 800 acres to roam and does not get any hormones and antibiotics. Very Happy

Hang in there it takes at least the two weeks to see any real weight loss. Your body has to go into lipolysis to start burning the fat!

Read the article on obsegens -- fascinating. I buy organic almost exclusively because as a teenager I became allergic to DDT and had horrible reactions to strawberries and peaches one day and then no reaction the next -- until we figured out it depended on whether or not the fruit had pesticide. I am so allergic to many insecticides that if I go to a party where a fogger has been used so the spray is on the grass, I have to leave because I develop horrible welts on my skin wherever the spray touches me. Even for people who are not allergic -- this just can't be good. I also stopped using plastic storage containers completely and replaced them with Glasslock storage containers, available at Costco. The covers are plastic, so I let food cool completely before covering it and putting it away. I have no idea whether I'm healthier or not as a result, but this article would seem to suggest that these measures are not excessive.
