HELLO ALL: I AM A NEW MEMBER TO FAT SECRET AND I WOULD LIKE YOUR OPINION ON RIDING. I HAVE A BUM KNEE AND WOULD LIKE TO REPLACE WALKING WITH RIDING. DO YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTION ON HOW MUCH RIDING I SHOULD DO (MINS./MILES)? YOUR SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE HELPFUL

Any amount of exercise is good exercise! Smile
Even half an hour of exercise every day is great.

With your knee issues…you’d be better off if you go for elliptical….especially if you are replacing ‘walking’….If you said I’m replacing jogging then I would think bike would’ve been ok …. However, I ain’t doc – you know the best how your knee feels. This company is very good (I’ve been buying from them for awhile… smoothfitnes.com …so check it out)

I suggest you go to the local gym…most of them have introductory free try-out…and even if they don’t…just tell them you don’t want to sign up unless you have a chance to try machines they have (most of them will let you try them) ……try to ride bike there for at least 25 min (at the pace that suits your knee) and after doing it three times (every other day) – see how your knee feels and decide if bike is really for you.

I’m curious – what happened to your knee? That could explain a lot.
Cheers,

P.S. Minutes mostly depend on how your knee feels day or two days after. So if you are all set on biking I'd say lower resistance for 10 minutes...see how your knee feels next day (and day after)... If you are good...increase time for 5 minutes (same resistance)...once you work up time to 20-30 minutes....start increasing resistance.

Hope this helps.
