Okay so for Christmas I received a bomb Sub Way card. A subway opened up about a mile and a half from my house so I decided that every morning I'm going to walk over there and get the veggie sandwich. I thought that since it was the morning and it was Christmas, that i would be safe. I'm walking home when i hear a "Hey" and I turn around to see a man in a pick up truck coming out of a parking lot. he asked if I was interested in a ride. Now I'm just a little naive 18 year old girl. So I don't know why he thinks that I would just hop in the car... i watch crime shows. I Basically said no and got on my phone as i walked away. Today I thought it would be different, and it was but instead of a man asking if I wanted a ride, it was a gas station attendant yelling at me from across the street and offering me a cup of coffee. Both men had to be in their early thirties. I'm worried that my image is making people assume things of me. I wear three layers of jackets and tight jeans with boots. I was wondering if any of you have had strange things happen to you on a walk\run\bike ride. I want to be able to walk to subway, but I'm of scared now. I know I might or am over reacting but I still feel weirded out none the less.

I remember when I was 19/20 I was camping outside a music store for concert tickets. It was a cold night and 2 guys in a van came up and asked if I wanted to get inside where it was warm. I said no thank you and replaced my headphones. They hung around a few minutes then 1 got out and gave me a sheet to keep me warm. Then they left. I was probably lucky that the parking lot was bright and a lot of cars were still there. But soon after they left I walked over to the super market that was in same center as it did spook me.

It used to happen to me all the time. It seems that by the time you get old enough to not really be terrified by it, it stops happening Smile It always made me feel very uncomfortable when guys would be creepy like that. Are there other people around? Are these crowded areas or more isolated? It is worthwhile to listen to your instincts and to avoid places that are empty or dark.

Mostly they're probably just harmless douchebags.

Yeah nothing like that has happened to me in years. But back then it happened often. The freaks see a young female and they become obsessed. At least we are smart enough to not get into cars with strangers.
Doom don't let them ruin your daily walk to Subway or anywhere else. If it does make you uncomfortable ask a friend to join you. You can always split a sandwich. Plus it might be more fun. And if you do have to go alone just keep walking and ignore them. And doesn't hurt to be on other side of the street from gas station.

well it's in the morning and the places aren't really all that crowded but it's close to my college where a lot of attacks on young women have taken place.... I have decided that the best course of action in this case (for my mental state) is to get a gym membership. I got one today and i can't wait to try it out... I will still get subway but I think i will drive.

As a Dad, with a 16 year old daughter, I give your choice a thumbs up. Like K8yk said maybe harmless but better to be safe.

I jog at night alone and am usually the only female doing so. I live in a pretty quiet neighborhood right across the street from a very dark park. It really started to freak me out so I got some pepper spray. Although I'm still the only female out there at night I feel a whole lot better. It isn't expensive and its amazing how such a little canister can make you feel a whole lot safer. I would recommend getting some and carrying it at all times! Stay safe =D

Get a big scary dog (the kind that would rather kiss than bite though)to run with. I get lots of space as folks walk as far away from my dogs as they can. My dogs probably run away if there was real trouble, but other folks don't know that!
God made man before women because you always make a rough draft before the final masterpiece (stolen from Coach's journal).

you are 18. get a concealed weapons permit and carry a 357! that's what i do! i feel very safe walking around carrying it. esp when we go hiking in the woods. more for bears and cougars than creepy old men but, if one tried something, they would get the surprise of their lives that's for sure!!
i put pepper spray in my daughters stockings. you should carry that at min. have it in your pocket, thumb on the trigger when you are walking.
wear your headphones but dont have the music too loud as you want to hear things around you but then you can ignore the creeps. act like you dont even hear them!!
good luck and be safe out there!
