My start weight was 132 and when I was there I thought 120 would be so great and I would look amazing. Well I'm at 121.8 now and I'm freaking out because in a mere 1.8 pounds I'll be at my goal weight but when I look at myself in the mirror I'm not thinking "Oh I just need to lost 1.8 more pounds and I'll look great." I'm 5'3" 23, F, and have been 120 pounds or more since middle school. (In college I got down to 119 for a brief period of time) I need help finding a new goal weight!

I guess it would really depend on what you are seeing that you don't like. It is possible that you would look more toned if you built more muscle rather than losing more fat. Do you work out?

I went searching google for "ideal weight" and came back with the conclusion that for my gender, frame, age, and height, my ideal weight would be 115 lb. I guess that is going to be my new goal weight. If I reach that and I'm still not happy there is going to be a serious re-configuration of my workout routine.

No offense, but that seems like a horrible way to figure out a goal weight.

What you want your body to look like is the question you need to answer. Google can't answer it for you. As Kate suggested, I would set both a goal weight and goal body fat percentage.

Hi Georgialee, I did the same as you, set a goal weight then when I got to it I still wasn't happy so kept taking it down, I am still not happy even at 106 lbs so am just going to keep going untill I am happy with what I see in the mirror.

And what if you are never happy?

I think we need to realize that a lot of times, self image is kind of screwed up. I have so many gorgeous thin friends who think they are fat and ugly. I'm not saying this is you, but it is worth considering that sometimes we don't see our own bodies clearly. And you can seriously damage your health by becoming underweight. Just look at anorexia. Here we have people who are starving to death, who look like they came from the concentration camp, who are convinced they are fat.

I would discuss my weight with a doctor, especially if you are getting below the recommended weight on the BMI chart. Not that the BMI chart is always right, but you need some kind of objective standard to compare yourself to or a doctor's opinion, especially if you're reaching a really low weight and you still aren't happy. That could be much more mental than physical.

Also, just check out this article about women and strength training. It might change your ideas about what needs to be done to attain the leanest, sexiest body you can get Smile What you look like has less to do with your weight than your body composition.

I definately don't have a problem with food, I love it!!! I'm not super skinny at all, I am only 5'2 so a little bit of extra weight looks alot on my frame. I know I need to incorporate more excersize into my diet to tone up but I just don't have the time plus I hate it!!! lol. I have found it very easy to lose weight just by being more carefull about what I putinto my mouth. I am eating alot more now than when I first started my diet, only losing 1/2 a week now. I will know when to stop and none of my friends have told me that I am getting too skinny! I definately have a lot of friends who would tell me if I was.

i found i was happier once i got into some small weight training and started seeing some definition. im also 5'2" and currently at 120 but i know i felt better and was happier when i was training for races and i was 110. so that is my gaol weight at this point. i'm not setting that goal weight as a "must" but more a "suggestion". so if you reach your goal and are not happy try adjusting it. it's not an end all to be all when you set a "goal weight"

also, if you don't have time for weight training, you can buid muscles by upping your weights and jillian michaels has a few good dvds that is you use weights with them it's only like 20 to 25 minutes each day. and you DO see results with them. at least i did. i used to do EA Active for 30 minutes per night, it comes with a resistance band, once i was on hard and found the workouts to easy, i added 2 lb wrist weights so i can still hold the wii-motes and it really does make a difference, just 2 lbs more per arm. who would have thought it. good luck!
