So yesterday I made an effort to eat differently as apposed to just not going over my calories.. I would say that generally I have less than 20% fat in the 14 to 17% range and protein is in the 15 to 22% range and the rest is all carbs. Yesterday I shot for 20% protein 40 % fat and 40% carbs. My husband nags me all the time and says I never get enough fat and that I have an unhealthy view on fat. I am just scared to give up the volume of food for the calorie dense fat. Like for instance 2 oz of pasta is 180 calories and fills a bowl while 1 oz of pecans are 190 something calories and you can hold it in your hand. Well I did it yesterday.. and I dont want to get excited.. but I could not eat all of my food for the day.. and I was not hungry today when I woke up.. it has taken me 3 hours to finish my breakfast.. Can anyone tell me is this just all in my head or is there really a difference in eating less carbs and getting more protein and way more healthy fats?

Healthy fats are both filling and satisfying. I know, it seems counterintuitive and it certainly took me a long time to hop aboard the healthy fats wagon, too. Smile

Ceebee, 40,40,20 has been my percentage for over 8 months. It is MUCH more satisfying than low fat. And I think healthier too. I think it is much healthier to eat a handful of nuts or an avocado or some olive oil than a huge pile of vitamin-less carbs, even if the calories are the same. I have also read that women especially do better with a higher fat percentage. Our bodies are more efficient at digesting fats than men's bodies.

All in all, there's really no reason to fear fat, as long as you keep an eye on the portions, but as you've already noticed, that isn't that difficult because that handful of nuts is really filling! It's definitely not in your head.

Kate is absolutely right. Healthy fats are good for you, help keep you sated longer and as a result you actually eat less. Hope that you find continued success with eating a bit more protein and fat, and a bit fewer carbs.

A few other benefits of keeping healthy fats in your diet better skin, hair and fatty organ efficiency. My doc instructed me to bounce my fats up to 30-50 range after I started to insure I didn't bring on any gall bladder issues.

Like everyone is saying ... bump up your proteins, lower your carbs, and experiment with healthy fats and you will be amazed at how sated your hunger will be.

Yea, i was really stubborn when it came to eating fats. But eventually, i learned to eat those healthy fats the hard way. A few months ago, not eating enough fats became an issue. For me, i took a blood test and my triglyceride levels were so low. I didnt think that would be a problem. But the doctor explained that this might be the reason why i was having gastrointestinal problems (i thought it was linked to my MS). I wasn't absorbing the nutrients that i needed. Today, i am proud to say that i am more than glad to eat a handful of almonds or add feta to my asparagus. So eat those healthy fats!!!!

Restaurant food
Are you currently monitoring your cabs intake, is that what you mean? Its hard to count carbs if you are eating in a restaurant since you don't know all the ingredients in the food.
