Anyone on Atkins gaining? I started 2.5 weeks ago. As of last Friday (2 week mark) I had lost 8 pounds. As of today, my weight has gone up by a few pounds. I'm following the diet to the T, eating veggies and keeping my carbs under 20 per day. The time I did this before, afer my first 2 weeks, I didn't gain but I stalled for about 2 weeks then it came off after that. I'm hoping that will happen this time. I want to give up but the only reason I'm sticking with it is because 1) I still have lost weight & 2) I'm not hungry when I'm done eating. Eating low carb truly reduces my hunger. I believe carbs and things in them block the message to your brain that you're full. Any tips from others with this same problem that overcame it?

There can be so many things that can cause daily fluctuations. Thats the downside of weighing too often. If you can, pick one day a week to weigh and do that at the same time of the day, preferably first thing in the morning after you pee. Another thing that can cause stalls are the Atkins bars. If you can, try cutting these from your diet for a few weeks and see if you start losing. I know for myself that I cannot have these or will stall and/or gain. Also, how much water do you drink? This could play a huge roll in your weight loss. Don't give up. You have already found how much better you feel eating this way. Going back wont do you any good.

Dear Lord, You are the beginning and the end of this great narrative called history. Thank You for writing me into the story. Though I play only a small part, may I play it well. May I honor You with my days and my choices and may I truly know that Your grace works. In Jesus’ Name, Amen

Thanks! I wasn't tracking my foods the last couple of days because it's a lot of trouble but maybe I think I'm staying under the carb count but possibly am not. Also, I don't drink too much water. One day I drank a lot and thought that would help and it didn't. Will drink more of that. I have also been eating some of the bars for breakfast as I'm already tired of eggs and sausage. I do weigh daily but only count the weight on Fridays. So I see today vs. last Friday and I'm up 2 pounds. I don't see me losing it in the next 2 days. I'm just predicting. Smile

You should really aim to drink 1/2 your body weight in oz of water. At your current weight, you should be drinking 104.4 oz per day. It might not be noticable the first few days, but it does come around. It will help you to flush the fat from your body.

I'm exactly how you are right now. This is my week 3 and I lost 8 lbs the first 2 weeks and gained this past week. It's so frustrating. I weighed myself today just too see how things were going and was up 2 lbs. I know weight fluctuates daily so I'm trying not to let it get to me. And I do tend to hold a lot of water. I know this plan works. I did it before. I'm determined to stick with it this time. I really want to lose the weight but if it takes a lot longer this time I will have to try and be patient. I feel 100 percent better!! And that's a huge plus. So don't give up, I won't either. We can do this!!!!

I did the exact same thing. But I only lost 4 lbs. the first 2 weeks!! I too had done Atkins before and had lost something like 12 lbs the first 2 weeks then! Well, I'm here to tell you that the weight will come off. I've been back on Atkins since June 21, and was sooo frustrated that first 6 weeks, the scale kept bouncing up and down! I'd lose 4 and gain back 5 the next week. It was totally crazy. Now, all of a sudden, the weight is just melting off. I'm not doing anything different, I just stuck to the plan and tried to have faith that it would work. Yesterday I celebrated a 12 lb. loss for the month, this morning I had lost 2 additional lbs. Trust me, keep to the plan, if you go back to your olds ways you will regret it!

Good luck!!!

Trying something for only one day (water) isn't enough to show a difference. Drink your water everyday. It helps flush out your system and keeps you hydrated.

Also, it looks like you aren't eating enough vegetables - or at least not recording enough. Make sure you get your 12 - 15nc of veggies in everyday.

I try to eat veggies with each lunch and dinner. Even then, it may not be 12-15 carbs worth. Great advice. I have been drinking water every day, it's just that one day I drank a lot more than usual. I will go to the grocery store and stock up on veggies to increase that. Of course, I'll have to figure out what to cut out besides the bars each day to have enough allowance for my veggie carbs. Since today is the start of my fourth week, should I move to 40 carbs per day? I've been doing less than 20 carbs daily but probably not being restrictive based on what NOT to eat on induction. I'm just counting carbs.

I wouldn't increase carbs! Stick with the 20 per day. I just started on the site and love the counter! It amazed me that with the right food choices I can have more food than I can eat and still stay under 20 carbs. I'm noticing now that my eyes are WAY bigger than my stomach.
Check out what all I ate yesterday... The only reason I ate an Atkins bar for dinner is that my family was running late and I really wanted one... so I entered what I had cooked for dinner in to see if I would have enough left over to have a bar and I did! After I ate the bar I wasn't even the least bit hungery. Hence the steak for breakfast today. Smile

Are you also measureing? My thought is that if your doing it right, you are likely loosing inches right now instead of pounds.

I just noticed LoneStarGirls post and yes I have found that has happened to me ...lose then seem to gain "overnight!" but I lost inches and in the earlier version of the Atkins book it tells us that when the fat is being lost some of the fat may be replaced with water that will go away...so even if we aren't losing pounds ..if you measure you will likely see that you have lost inches..You are doing a fine job ..keep up the great work!
I wish you enough
