Literally. I pretty much dislike water I guess and I cannot honestly remember the last time I ever felt 'thirsty'. Right now I 'make' myself drink water but I know that my daily intake of it (even though way more than before I joined FS), is not nearly enough. I even have reminders on my outlook calendar which I ignore when they pop up. I have friends at work who bring me cups of water to drink, and they just sit there. I feel awful and sickly and bloated and queasy when I force myself to drink it. Someone suggested adding some lemon to it, which I may try, but any other tips? I guess ... HOW can I make my body feel thirst again? Or ... this may be a silly question, but are there other sources where I can get water or its effects?

I hate drinking plain water. But all I ever drink is water now. I add the crystal light flavor packs to my water and it allows me to get my daily intake of water and then some. Crystal Light has so many flavors to choose from that I'm sure you can find one you like. Hope this helps.

For some pple crystal light can really stall their weight loss, and remember if you are doing atkins, that we are allowed only 3 sweeteners a day. also we are to be drinking pure 100% water, half our body weight in oz. so if you are consuming a lot of crystal light, you are not drinking the water the way you should be, and really overdoing it on the sweeteners.
Just IMHO, but artifical sweeteners are really not good for you, and if you train your body to drink water, you will find you cannot do without it.

Here are some lemon alternatives that I really enjoy!!
-an orange slice, squeezed into the water
-a few cucumber slices
-a berry or two squeezed in there (blackberries, strawberries, etc).
-a combo of several of the above

This may sound weird, but I find that what I am drinking the water out of makes a difference. A regular cup I wonT drink much. However if I have a straw or my water bottel, I use one of Camelbak ones that have a starw I drink a lot more. I also have found that if it is not cold I will not drink much.

I am with you nisuoc. I wont drink that much if it's cold. I like it room temp out of water bottles. I take 5 (20 oz)with me every day to work and leave the empties off to the side so I can see my progress. And the one I am drinking at the time is left in front of me reminding me to keep on drinking.

Room temp water is the way to have it for me as well. I can have large quantities of water when it's not cold.

nisuoc, I read something about that before, people who have trouble drinking water regularly actually do better with either a straw or they tend to drink more water if it's from a "pretty" glass or cup. I drink out of one of those "Health Center" mugs that is 32oz and I normally drink about 3 to nearly 4 of those a day while at work and drink anoter one or so at home.. and of course in the morning about 16oz before I even leave the house.. but allllll this I do with a straw. I bought a few packs of blue, green and purple straws at ikea last month (100 for .99) and it helps me chug the water down.

Now I'm the opposite, mine has to be cold. And I have to have a straw. I don't know why. But I can drink alot more if I have a straw. It seems more refreshing or something that way. But I do want to tell MsPurfec that I was never a water drinker either. Hardly ever. It was really hard for me in the beginning to drink enough. But once I really started forcing myself to drink the water the more I drank the more I wanted. Most days I feel like I can't get enough water and I usually drink more than my body weight in oz. of water. I don't know if anyone else has experienced that or not. But I drink water all the time now. Friends make fun of me for all the water I drink. Used to try to talk myself into getting a bottle of water but then end up going for the diet coke. And actually I didn't do that very often. I definitely did not drink enough fluids in the past. I used to do good to drink a total of 4 soft drinks a day now I drink way over 100 oz. Try the tips that you've been given for trying lemon, orange, ect. I used to put lemon in my water too and that actually made me want to drink more too. Hopefully it will kick in for you. I think drinking all this water has been a real key in helping me stick with diet and lose some weight..

You are so right nino. Like anything, it's hard getting started. But once you do - the more you will want. Then the more you will need. I can't go very long without drinking water. I find myself very thirsty all the time and am constantly drinking. I find my lips get parched the day after not getting in my minimum 100 oz. And just think of the other benefits - weight loss, softer skin, softer lips, clarity. Water is wonderful!

Good idea on the pretty cups and straws. Something eye catching might help remind and encourage you to drink. You can't miss my mug. It is 40 oz., bright blud, and looks like a keg. I get teased about that all the time too. They want to know what is in it and I say unfortunately just water. LOL I drink at least 2 of them at work (80 oz) and sometimes three and then I have a 32 oz at home that I drink at least one of.

I am with Darlene on this seltzer water is really good sometimes. Especially the flavored ones iced cold. If I can splurge I like Perrier water but I haven't had it in months. Evian is my favorite plain water but I haven't had it in years actually. I guess I AM on a budget! Smile

Here I thought I was one of the only ones who has to force herself to drink water. I am trying and I just joined a water drinking challenge. I do find by buying a 32 ounce drinking cup with a straw helps me to drink more water

Guys, be careful with this water thing. I just want to mention that you should not chug a huge amount of water all at once- it can be deadly.

Also, there's basically no scientific basis for the idea that you have to drink half your body weight in ounces in water. There's actually no scientific basis for the idea that you can't get your liquid from iced tea or other beverages AND there's no scientific basis for drinking 8, 8 oz glasses a day.

I know it's part of Atkins, but if you're really having trouble doing it, you might want to look into some of the "science".

I hate water myself but If I don't drink a lot of it I suffer from severe UTI's which are very crippling. My doctor advised 3L, to keep me out of the surgery waiting room, so 4L a day is usually my goal.

While too much water too fast can run havoc on your bladder and cause some problems, doing so throughout the day is fine.
Here is some information that can be found on the Internet. I encourage ya'll to research as best you can when unsure of these highly debated issues.
The kidneys of a healthy adult can process fifteen liters of water a day! You are unlikely to suffer from water intoxication, even if you drink a lot of water, as long as you drink over time as opposed to intaking an enormous volume at one time. As a general guideline, most adults need about three quarts of fluid each day. Much of that water comes from food, so 8-12 eight ounce glasses a day is a common recommended intake. You may need more water if the weather is very warm or very dry, you are dieting or if you are exercising, or if you are taking certain medications. The bottom line is this: it's possible to drink too much water, but unless you are running a marathon or an infant, water intoxication is a very uncommon condition.

It is quite difficult to over hydrate. You would have to drink over 1 gallon in less than 1 hour. That my friends is nearly impossible.

Keli, you are right it is nearly impossible, but not impossible. I just read a story the other day about a woman who was told that the more water she drank, the more weight she would lose. So she chugged a large amount of water all at once and died. I think it is worth pointing this out lest any other person makes the same deadly mistake.

I agree, you aren't going to harm yourself by drinking water throughout the day, but if it comes to the end of the day and you haven't drank nearly as much as you are told you should, don't chug it all at once, it can be deadly.

That is so true. I also read a story during my research that said a radio station in CA was giving away a Wii to the contestant that could drink the most water w/o going to the bathroom. I dont remember the amounts two women drank but 1 actually died and the other was very sick. All for a few hundred dollar gaming system.
