one day to rest/splurge?

I'm trying to lose weight and I've decided that Sunday is my more relaxed day when I do less exercise (but still some), and eat higher fat, higher calorie foods. Is this ok? As long as I don't go way overboard *like eating a whole pizza and plate of wings* or something, would this be an acceptable part of my dieting? The rest of the week I am eating low cal, high protein, low fat foods, running/walking 4 miles, doing 200 crunches, and various things like squats, pullups, etc. Any comments or advice?

I do one free day as long as I have been good for the week. But I make sure that I don't go overboard. Keep track of your total loss of calories for the week and make sure you are not eating enought to undo it. For me if I dont see much weight loss I will stay strictor for the free day.
I have never been able to run much. I want to run a marathon.

my husband is always saying that he's always heard free days are a good thing to have, but i'm incredibly leery of doing it myself. however, this past sunday i did give myself a little leeway. i think, overall, it was a good choice because i was very strict ALL week. i ended up having a piece of chocolate cake and i was glad i did for two reasons. first of all, it was WAY too sweet. second, had i not had i would have been more likely to make a more rash and horrible choice down the road.

overall, i was still pretty conservative. i didn't get crazy with the idea of a "free day" or anything, i just relaxed a little bit to prove to myself i could do it and not go insane!

Week-ends are my "free" days but I also choose little things like Dreyers low carb fudge pops 3 nc or the occassional skinny cow ice cream sand. Treats might just keep you sane!! but ya, dont overdo it Smile

I split my rest and cheat day up. I'll go to the gym early on my cheat day and depending how good of a workout I have will determine what I can cheat with. Sometimes it's only a snickers bar, some days I'll eat a small Chicago style pizza

I belive in a free day. It is the reward for staying on schedule the other six days. If I don't, no free day. Also, even with the free day, I may eat something I otherwise would not eat, but I don't pig out like I would have in my pre-diet days. My mind is just in a different place, so the free day does not impose that much of a risk of knocking you off the diet wagon -- if you are mentally committed to it.

I am planning on having one "free meal" per week during which I can eat whatever I want without restriction. That meal will most likely be on Saturday or Sunday because those are the days when I'm more likely go to out to eat. I figure if 20 of my meals are solid nutritionally for weight loss, 1 won't ruin the work of the week in terms of eating well and exercising.

This has worked for me in the past!

Wow! Thanks for all the great posts, I will keep this in mind. I exhibited a great deal of will power, today by resisting a doughnut at breakfast. I instead had some kashi cereal and low fat milk, instead haha.
