I too don't enjoy just drinking water, it has to have some flavor! I've treated myself to the SoBe Life Water. Some of these flavors of water don't have calories either! Good Luck!

I don't drink much water but drink lots of herbal tea. I'm loving pepermint tea at the moment and it's only 2 calories a mug.

I hate water. The only water that tastes good to me is the water at the gym and that's probably because I'm so sweaty I'm just really thirsty.

Otherwise, I drink unsweetened iced tea and club soda with lime. Both are calorie free.

There are 2 different schools of thought on this: One is that you MUST drink plain water. The other is that it is fine to get your water from iced tea or another flavored beverage. Any beverage is 99% water, so I really can't see why plain water would count but iced tea wouldn't. Even many foods are mostly made up of water- especially veggies and fruit.

Personally, I never drink plain water, except at the gym. It hasn't stopped me from losing weight.

Water is one of those things that you have to drink to want more.
There is no substitute for clear water. You could squirt in a wedge of lemon into the water.

The crystal light is limited to 3 per day (3 total artificial sweeteners, this includes sobe, and any other artificially sweetened drinks).

As you drink more water, you will find that it is easier to drink more.
Try to drink a 16 ounce glass of water with every meal. Once that becomes easy, increase it. You should be drinking 50% of your body weight in water.

If you want to loose weight, there is NO substitute for water. You are defeating most of your efforts if you aren't drinking clear water.

Denise is exactly right. During induction, we're limited to just 3 artificial sweetners/day. Afterwards, you can have more, but the Crystal Light or whatever does not make up for the water. You still need your 64oz or more of WATER per day.

I sometimes put a citrus wedge in my water. Orange tends to be pretty good. If you *hate* water you might just want to mix juice with water just so you're staying hydrated so your body can burn fat more easily.

Actually Noleboy,
The limit of sweeteners isn't just Induction.
I'm a little more flexible on OWL, but still limit my sweetener.

R.E. mixing juice with water. That is out. Juice is allowable only in the later stages of OWL.

A lemon or lime wedge is good.

Here is an awesome article that addresses how important water is.

Thanks for clarifying Denise. Guess I need to break back out my Atkins' New Diet Revolution book for a refresher course.

If Dr. Atkins didn't write the new book, I don't wanna fool with it. Notice how the Atkins International group that bought his company after his death went nearly belly-up. They focus too much on their packaged products etc...whereas Dr. Atkins focused on eating whole foods.

Everyone has provided good info, but I'll add that for some people it's actually easier to drink it at room temperature as opposed to being overly cold. You may be able to chug down half a bottle easier at least.

There aren't very good substitutes, but a squirt of lemon or lime might help.

Note to Noleboy - (and everyone else) I went to the Atkins site and found it quite confusing to navigate, perhaps I just didn't want to deal with spending the time on it. Yet it does seem those artificial bars aren't too healthy and if we're going to occasionally eat junk I'll stick with a diet drink once in a while. Also, I found the bars and such addictive almost like candy where I couldn't eat one or two but ate a box in a whole day! Anyway those flavored teas iced are really good and some don't need artificial sweeteners if they're made strong enough...

I like putting fresh fruit in my water, like sliced oranges and lemons, berries or cucumber. It's all natural. Just slice the fruit, add water, and let it sit for a little bit. It's flavored and not too sweet and easy on the waistline Smile

FYI--most teas don't count as part of your water intake because they are diuretics. I think herbal teas may count, though.

I find the Atkins site about 100times more helpful than Fatsecret.
There are a FEW people on here that know what they are talking about when it comes to Atkins, but not many. Most of the knowledgeable people doing Atkins only post on the Atkins board.

I have learned TONS on the board, and I try to pass on some of that knowledge here.

I also found the site too confusing the first time I did Atkins. I didn't post here and I did fail. I'm absolutely positive that the reason I'm still going strong this time is the constant support on the Atkins forum. Constant encouragement, thousands of awesome recipes, a licensed nutritionist that is there to help out with health questions. It can't be beat.

I don't disagree with you about the focus on products, however I get a wonderful free site as a result of those products, so I don't whine too loud. Anything that can be done to educate the public about the low-fat failure and a healthy way of eating is worth a bit of commercialism in my opinion.

Dear DeniseTra - maybe the Atkins site is better and you are helping the people here. But for me induction long-term has helped me best. Too many (as you've noticed) give up on Atkins pretty quickly. I am the last to say I know the most about Atkins, but know induction works best for me. I went to the Atkins site it seemed very strict - the very first time I went on there were warnings posted about people. And I think they are about selling their products. However, you are right that people who are on Atkins who are having stalls and difficult times on their weight loss journey really should talk to the registered dietitian on the Atkins site and get to the nitty gritty of what is going on WITH THEM. Even one meal can throw off a person on this diet and I think some people might not realize that is the case. Thanks for letting everyone know the Atkins site is there for all of us in case we really need it. I probably will need to talk to the dietitian once I get to my goal weight about how to stay and balance myself in a healthy manner around the same weight.... Glenn P.S. When I mentioned teas I was talking strictly about the herbal ones. I think most are not diuretic. There are many wonderful flavors - some so good they don't need sweeteners - not even artificial added... I make them iced...
